Question Regarding Possible Cancelling of Current Planned Trip

I rented some points for my sister for a January trip. She is not a DVC member. I am. They were actually transferred to me, and I"ve made her reservation. She is going in January and the use year is Sept. 07. She was planning on going to Florida to visit her father-in-law and stay with him and his wife for a week and then Disney for a week. Unfortunately, he just found out he has terminal cancer in the liver and pancreas. While they are hoping to still be able to take their trip and just do the Disney part, there is a chance they may have to cancel.

Can someone please explain to me about cancelling with DVC and then how long they have to use the points.

Actually, they are your points since they were transferred to you. If they were from a Sept 2007 use year, did you bank them to the Sept 2008 use year, as January 2009 is in the Sept 2008 use year?

As long as you cancel the reservation before 30 days before their scheduled arrival, you should then have until August 31, 2009 to use the points.
