We are lucky enough to have a family member who is helping to pay for our WDW trip. She is retired military and wants to buy the Salute Tickets. A couple questions:
1. She is not coming on the trip - is it possible that she can purchase the tickets with her discount and give them to her family (us)? I'm not clear if we activate these tickets online or in person at WDW.
2. If the above does work, we would really like 6 days of tickets. Is it possible that we buy 2 extra days of tickets at regular price?

There a different military tickets you can get.. The Salute Tickets-( 4 day ticket) Or you can purchase discounted tickets at the military bases. In order to have the salute tickets the military member must be present with you to activate OR I believe you can show the orders that they are deployed ( I could be wrong about that). I have read you can not make changes to the salute ticket. You would have to purchase additional days..

My understanding is that all the tickets that are purchased from SOG (shades of Green) and select MIL bases are already activated. No need to have the sponsor present and can be linked to your MDE for use. I know you can buy the tickets in advance from SOG and have them mailed for like $10.00. They used to issue exchange certificates but not any longer.

If you need 6 days, the best thing to do is have her buy 6 day tickets on a discount from the ticket office on base. The discounted tickets are already active and you just link them to your magic band and go.

You can not add days to military salute tickets, you would get the military salute and a 2 day ticket. It's roughly $75 more expensive than the 6 day discounted ticket and then you have two tickets to fiddle with.

Military salute tickets need to be activated at the ticket office unless the SOG tickets come already activated, but honestly for 6 or 7 days you are best off buying discounted tickets.

The Salute tickets are 4 days only and cannot have days added to them at all. The military member or spouse MUST activate them AT Disney. There is no online activation.

This site http://www.militarydisneytips.com/ will give you all the ins and outs of the different tickets offered to the military.

This is not true. The tickets can be linked to MDE for fastpass purposes-but they are not active for park entry. The military member has to activate the tickets at any park or Disney Springs guest relations prior to use. This is true no matter where you purchase the tickets--SOG or from a base.

Military Salute tickets MUST be activated by the sponsor and the sponsor has to activate one of them for themselves. If the deal is for 6 tickets, that's 1 for the sponsor and 5 for friends or family. After they are activated you can go your separate ways. They do not even issue the actual ticket any longer. They issue a voucher (which can be linked to MDE), which must be traded in a for the ticket. I have one of the green vouchers right now that I linked to MDE, I'll be there in about 11 days.

I'm looking at the 5 we have now and it says they are ACTIVATED.

This used to be the case but not any longer. I believe there is also a new thread in regards to this.

You are looking at 5 Military Salute tickets or 5 tickets purchased with a military discount? The Salite tickets are a green voucher, it says Exchange Certificate on the front.

salute tickets must be activated by military member once you arrive. if you are staying at SOG you can purchase your tickets through them. they send numbers to activate tickets. still need military member to stay. the program is designed to not be able to do what you are trying to do. Military member must be at Disney. It's a great benefit but cannot be given to others unless member is along on the trip.

Not sure what you are implying and not sure if I should bother explaining any further... Have used the program as well numerous times for our friends and family. Have had the certificates for every time EXCEPT the 5 I'm currently looking at. These are LIVE tickets and NO ACTIVATION IS REQUIRED... I know what the site states.. I assume it is because there are still exchange certificates being used as well.

ALSO, the only restriction that is listed is that one of the 6/12 tickets that are purchased MUST be used by the Service member.

No doubt in my mind this is entirely possible. I know that doesn't track with published information, but it wouldn't be the first time...

You stated here that the sponsor did not need to be present... Careful what advice you give.

Peace out.

Salute tickets from Shades of Green now come activated and gate ready. This is apparently a change as of about a month ago. I have 5 in my possession right now. Shades assured me they were gate ready, no where on the tickets themselves do they say they need to be exchanged, and when entered in MDE, they show as tickets, not as exchange vouchers as they did in previous years.

Again, this is new as of about a month ago. I also confirmed it with Steve from miltary Disney tips.

Imagine it won't be long before military salute tickets are no more now that they can be given/sold without a service member/sponsor present...

I wondered about this too... That's why I confirmed with several sources that the ones I recieved were already activated. Seemed odd to me that all the sudden we didn't have to activate them. Especially when I know many base ITT offices are still offering vouchers.
