Question re: Photopass Photographers capturing proposals

I've read threads on here where people have worked it out so that a photopass photographer is there to photograph a proposal in the parks. My question is, how does that happen? Do they talk to guest relations and set it up beforehand somehow? Do they just approach a random PP photographer and ask?

I'm asking because we are *really* hoping that our DD will be walking on our next trip. She's 2.5 and not walking yet, and there's been a lot of OT and PT appointments to get her where she is. Her PT does think she'll be walking by our next trip (Nov 2015), and I cannot even remotely express how amazing and special it would be to walk down Main Street USA with her hand in hand. I'm seriously tearing up just thinking about it. It has been a very long road so far, and we have a lot of work left to get there, but I know we will.

I would love for some photos of us walking down Main Street USA (with all of us in the pictures), both from the front and from behind. I don't need a huge extended photo session or anything, just those few minutes captured on film. I don't know if it would be possible to arrange something like this, similar to how the proposals are arranged?

We happened to see a proposal during our last trip. There was no plan; the PP photographer mentioned to the couple (we were waiting for our pictures to be taken after theirs) that if they waited just another minute or so, he could take a picture of them kissing while the fireworks of the Mickey's Dream show at the castle were going off. The guy pulled the ring box just far enoug out of his pocket for my DH and the PP photographer to see it, so the photographer set it all up -- told him to get down on one knee, said "now" so he knew when to pull out the ring, and got the proposal with the fireworks in the background. The girl and I were both shocked. We talked with the PP photographer afterwards who said they do things like that all the time. (Sorry, not completely on topic but I love that story! :) )

Knowing that, I am positive they can get your picture walking down Main Street. If the first photographer isn't great, find another one because some are better than others (maybe watch how they interact with another family first). It's often less crowded closer to the castle which might make the walking shot nice but not such a great castle shot... but then again the statue of Walt Disney walking with Mickey is up there too!

My DS (who's 12 now) needed OT/PT/vision therapy to be able to accomplish much more minor things so I can relate in a tiny way -- congratulations to you and your daughter! That's a lot of hard work and effort on everyone's part, in and out of the therapy sessions.

I have no idea on the answer, just wanted to say in tearing up for you! So very exciting for your family!

I don't know the answer but just wanted to chime in with some :grouphug: and pixiedust:

I wish I lived closer so I could volunteer to come take the photos for you.

I hope you'll share some photos when it happens. :goodvibes

. . . a photopass photographer is there to photograph a proposal in the parks . . . Do they talk to guest relations and set it up beforehand somehow? Do they just approach a random PP photographer and ask?. . .

1) Guest Services does not get involved with this.
. . . can you imagine the number of requests if they did?
. . . can you imagine the logistical problems of coordinating?
. . . can you imagine the MAJOR complaints if one of the arrangements got missed?
2) Just grab a photog and ask him/her to snap a photo or two.
3) It is up to them if they would do more (like trailing photos).

Could also put out a request here with the date(s) and see if a DISer who's handy with a camera (but use yours--or at least your own memory card-- so you don't have to figure out how to get the pics later!) might meet up with you in the park....I'm sure you could work out details via PM. I'm sure there's someone here who'd consider it, for nothing more than a thank you (but I'd probably buy them lunch or a snack anyway!).

My DH made it a point to propose when there was a photographer available. He knew I'd love photos and that was the only "fixed" part of the plan he had. We had just walked into Animal Kingdom and I wanted our picture with the Tree of Life. While I was getting the photo pass to hand to the photographer, he got down on his knee and proposed. She got it all. And we had a rope drop crowd as witnesses. :)

I didn't know if they directed you to the fine art photography or something to set this up (I don't think they advertise doing sessions in MK, which is why I was unsure)

I absolutely understand there would be a ton of logistical issues, I just didn't know how people who've posted such things happening managed it. Thanks for the response :)

I wouldn't have thought of that, thank you for the idea!

I was proposed to at HS Osborne lights... my brother in law told the photographer the plan when we were in line for a picture in front of the nutcrackers. and they kind of just waited it out... I cant post them here because i dont know how... but i got about 20!

I'm definitely one of those fellow Disers who would do it in a heartbeat!

I am a group tour director who visits WDW often with high school bands and choirs, and I love photography as a hobby. I take pics of my groups and the parks in general.

The problem would be that even if I am there the same time you are (I have a trip already scheduled over Thanksgiving, in fact), I'm not able to be flexible about which park and what time. Once my group is in a park I'm free to explore, but I have to stick to their schedule.

But as a PP said, I'm sure there are many other Disers like me, who would be happy to help you out!

If you go at a slower time of day it shouldn't be a problem. My sister has a bunch of pics of when my niece was younger and the photographer did a little photo shoot.

I have seen pics of the walking away down main street so its not something that's outside what they normally do.

I would do it multiple times with different photographers and pick the best ones. Even go to each one down the street and make a bit of a montage.

We will be there the first 2 weeks of december 2015...I would totally do the pics/ filming for you!
PS I'm a PT and can understand how you feel about that huge accomplishment ! Good luck !

Ask a CM from your home state!!

Two years ago WDW trip. Son n law wanted to propose to my daughter at WDW. Asked for our help to do something fun - no preplanning. We went to MK city hall guest services and asked. Not much help? "Oh maybe a PP photog can get a picture when your ready" - that was it. Later we were at the Merchant of Venus gift shop and saw a CM who's name tag showed he was from a town near where we live. Struck up a conversation about back home and all, talked about our trip and how much fun we're having during which the proposal thing came up. Asked did he have any suggestions of something fun or different to do. He said wait a minute!! He was gone about 15/20 minutes. Came back with a Wedding Mickey Minnie stuffed dolls, A wedding picture frame, a Mickey Minnie Figurine and Mickey & Minnie bride / groom earhats. No Charge!! He had called Photopass folks and set up an extra Photographer to be at the rose garden for Wishes that night. Instructed us to have them there before wishes and let the PP CMs know we were there! We got in line to have an all family photo in the rose garden. They held us back until a few minutes before Wishes then called us in and took photos of all 11 of us. Then wanted to get photos just of my daughter and fiancée. That was the opportunity. He asked her as wishes started the fireworks. Followed by hugs, kisses, crying, laughing, more photos etc. They closed the rose garden so the two of them could see the entire wishes show in the rose garden alone. (They normally close the rose garden during wishes with no photography). My daughter was completely surprised and did not know of any plans as there were none until day of.

Additionally the CM from the gift shop had gotten our PhotoPass Plus info and had a photo that the two had made earlier that day in the rose garden displayed on the castle projection show that night. Many of the photos used in the castle show at that time were so small you could not really see them but it was nice thinking they were part of the show.

We had not planned this and certainly did not expect this much help. But these Disney CMs went above and beyond that day. They would not take a tip. We did complete an employee survey for each one specifically, describing their actions so they could get professionally recognized for their efforts to create a great proposal event!

The Photo CMs are set up several minutes before the MK opens. Maybe if you catch the right person they can get you in early and get the photos.

We got some early morning (as in before the park opened) reservations for breakfast at the Crystal Palace. We have photos of us on main street with no one else around!

Wish you the best!!

Guest services DOES in fact arrange photographers upon request at any location of your choosing.
