Question RE: Mickey ear hats-- what am I missing?

Just how are these supposed to fit? I've never owned (or tried on) any before, but a friend shipped the bride/groom ears to me and DH-to-be to wear during our honeymoon trip in a few weeks. I ran home during lunch and tried mine on on a whim and they are so awkward-fitting! They kind of just... sit there on top, not like I imagine a hat working at all. They fit best if I push them back to the crown of my head, but then they're tilted back and look ridiculous. I can push them down to be a little more secure but that is uncomfortable and makes my own ears stand out, not to mention that the elastic strap is so long it has at least an inch of air between it and my chin.

Am I missing something? Is this normal? Do I just have a freakishly large head? I can't even imagine how DH-to-be's will fit since his head is larger than mine. Any tips on making this work?

That is how mine have always fit (well - from when I was 7 and then trying on my DD's!)

My hubby and I wore our during our honeymoon.

He wore his square on the top of his head with the neck strap.

I wore mine further back on the crown of my head and bobby pinned it in place. I liked being able to see a bit of my hair.

I believe they have gotten smaller in the last few years. I have my classic black ears from 2009, my first set of adult ears. I planned on getting new ones each trip as a souvineer, but the last two just don't fit, even the classic black ones. They perch on top of my head, with space between my crown and the hat.

The 2009 ones, and the ones I remember for the 60's fit snugly down. In fact, I have a sun hat with a low crown that works perfect. My classic ears fit snugly on the hat (I pin it just to be careful), so I get my ears and sun shade too.

I don't think I will be getting any new ears, I'll just be taking my classic, well fitting ears with me after this.

Thank you, all! :) Glad it's not just me and that my ears (and head!) are 'normal' for current sizing, though I do wish they fit like the older ones. Just seems more natural, KWIM?

Thanks for the photo, jkramer! You and your DH look adorable in your ears and I will have to try your strategy for keeping them in place. Here's hoping my longish pixie cut has enough length for the pins to grip.

I cant stand my hair on the back of my neck when i am hot, so I always wear a very high ponytail when in WDW. Because of that, I cant wear the typical hats and I go for the headbands instead. I wore the bride ears headband on my honeymoon :bride:

I actually used those little clips that like pop in and out....don't know their name. My hair is super thin, but they held on like a champ. Even on TOT.

I always refer to them as clippy clips. It's amazing anyone has any idea what I'm talking about.

My absolute favorite pair of ears is a pair of Haunted Mansion ears that are way too small. The husband thinks they're kid sized, but they didn't have any others so oh well. They sit in my living room looking awesome instead of sitting on my head.

I do have a largish head. I tie a little loop in the elastic band so it's a bit shorter, put the beanie on the crown of my head, and pass the elastic band behind my ears and under my hair. Then I secure the beanie with a big bobby pin on each side.

I was going to suggest the headband style as well. A friend of mine is getting married next month and going to WDW on her honeymoon. Her bridal shower was this past weekend and she wore the headband bride ears and they were super cute.
