Question re: Gay Couple holding hands in the parks

Just thinking about holding hands with my loved ones makes me smile and lower my blood pressure! Hoping you have an awesome time and know there are many people in the parks that support you. Post after your trip and let us all know how your experience was.

Hold hands(:
Just be respectful, which goes for every person everywhere. The fact that you are reaching out and even asking this is showing respect imo. Most people won't care. You will of course have those few who will frown upon it, but whatever. You love each other, and that's beautiful. That's what matters.

As far as I am concerned, the world would be a much better place if everyone held hands. I hold hands with my husband if walking with him. I hold hands with my daughter who is 10. I still hold hands with my mom. Enjoy your trip and hold hands often! :-)

I think it is so sad that that question even has to be asked... I'm not into PDA for any couple.. gay or straight, but holding hands, a hug and quick peck on the cheek is all good in my book. Have fun, hold hands, be happy and enjoy your time together!! <3

This exactly!

OP: Be yourself and have a magical time. We're not all crazy here in the states, and my children are growing up knowing that love doesn't have limits.

You should not have an issue in any of the parks. If you do, I would make a complaint to Guest Services. Disney is VERY proactively LGBT friendly. They just yesterday pulled all funding from the Boy Scouts of America because of their ban on gay leaders. Disney is a place where all people should be free to be themselves. I hope you have a great trip.

That's sad! One of my favorite memories happened several years ago. I got to MK at rope drop and made a bee line for Fantasy Land. I had just gotten off Peter Pan and and Small World and was headed toward Mickey's Philharmagic when I saw an adorable little girl dressed in what was obviously a home made princess type dress. She was holding the hand of this huge biker type guy. He had long hair with a few braids in it covered with a bandana on top, a long beard, was wearing motorcycle boots, faded, frayed, denim cutoffs, and had a black leather vest over a t shirt. His arms, neck, and most of his legs were covered in tatoos. Without the little girl, he might have looked a little scary to anyone. However, he was holding hands with his daughter who was trying to show him how to skip. The big guy was klutz at it, but he was trying his best. They were in their own little world and were absolutely adorable. I so wanted to take a picture of them, but didn't want to infringe on their rights. Somehow they epitomized that wonderful happy feeling Magic Kingdom is supposed to be all about. I noticed several other people stopped looking at them and smiling, but don't think they even noticed. They were in their own little world. I was solo that trip and the sight of that big tough guy happily trying to skip through Fantasy Land, holding his little girl's hand was enough to make the meanest scrooge melt.

Thanks for sharing this! It put a smile on my face this morning. :goodvibes

I tend to notice more when I see same-sex couples holding hands. It always makes me smile a little more, knowing that society is progressing toward equality and acceptance. Go for it. Be proud of your love. You suffer through enough discrimination; you shouldn't have to suffer through it at the happiest place on Earth.

This! Agree 100%.

I'm skipping to the end to say that as a former CM, we were told (emphatically) that the same rules apply to any two people regardless of their genders or whether they're friends or family or romantically involved. Holding hands, linking arms, hugging, and quick kisses are always allowed. Making out, groping breasts or genitals, hands inside the other person's clothing are not allowed.

On a personal note, I love to see couples enjoying being with each other. Go for it.

Thank you for weighing in with the Official Word. And thank you also for everything you did to make people's trips more magical.

I often tell people, when they ask why we keep returning to Disney World, that it's because of the CMs. The rides are fun, but you guys are what makes this place special. :wizard:

Yep. You're going to get stared at. You're going to have people whom are disgusted. People may possibly shield their children. And you may even have some particularly rude folks make comments. Disney is such a great place to vacation, and sometimes the "magic" makes us forget you're just in Orlando. It's the same as it is anywhere else in the world.

It's sad it has to be that way, but you know what, it's also sad that people do the same thing over my tattoos. That's becoming less and less an issue, though, and hopefully your situation will do the same over time.

Hope you have a fun trip, and do yourself a favor and forget what other people might think. They're just giving someone else a break when they're judging you.

Sometimes I look at someone with tattoos a little bit too long because I'm trying to see them! I catch myself and hope that they don't think that I hate them or anything. I definitely don't.

I'm sorry, off topic but maybe people are staring at tattoos because they like them. I know I notice tattoos because I like to look at them. I hope the person doesn't think I'm looking at them because I am judging. I just really love tattoos!

I do the same thing, I like to look at cool ink even though I'm too chicken to get one myself - my DW is tattooed and I probably stare too long at her too ;) I do the same with people with cool haircuts/colors, or cool sneakers (I'm a sneaker-head). Don't take it the wrong way, some people are just in awe of how cool you look and wish they could pull it off.

This is me! I'm usually wondering who did their fabulous ink.

Pro tip! If you're going to stare at someone's ink, ask them about it. Almost all great tattoos have good stories behind them.

Me, too!

I have several friends, who've had tattoos for years (one fellow has a large dragon inside one arm and a tiger inside the other), and I still stare. I think they're beautiful!

I wish I could get one myself. I'd have a platypus, if I did. But when I looked into the cost, it was more than I could justify. :(

Maybe I'll do it for my fiftieth birthday! :thumbsup2

DH wants a tattoo of Chilly Willy eating pancakes. Just thought I'd share.
