Question re: Debit Cards at Disney

I'm leaving for the Dolphin hotel on Saturday but SMRT me forgot to transfer our money from our ING account (where we've been saving it for over a year) to our chequing account. ING says that it could take 1 - 2 business days for the funds to appear in my chequing account.

Now, I can take out what I need to survive for the 2 days, but do restuarants down there use the debit card system? I bank with Royal and apparently, I can now use my debit card in stores in the US now.

Has anyone done this? Do the restaurants at Disney use the debit card system?

had difficulty using debit in the US for some reason. I've just stuck with the ATM machines which I'm sure there are several at Disney. I've tried in Michigan and Myrtle Beach with no luck.
I would suggest you just use a credit card (you can have credit added to your room card and pay at the end of your trip) or use the ATM when you get there.

I wasn't even able to use my debit card at an ATM, much to my surprise. Might be because my bank is PC Financial, I don't know.

A few trips ago DH and I used our bank cards for the first time at WDW. We saved our spending money in a savings account that DH had set up and he would transfer money from his chequeing account to this special savings account periodically. The problem was when we arrived at WDW he couldn't access this account because it was labelled as his OTHER savings and there wasn't a button for this on the ATM. We had to use our credit card the whole trip all the while knowing that we had the cash just waiting

That hasn't happened since, as we always make sure that the money is in an accessible account. I haven't tried to do debit at the stores and restaurants since we always stay onsite and use the room key card to charge everything to the room and pay it off all at once at the front desk.

Well, that could be because the ATMs in the US use a 4 digit PIN system, whereas here, they encourage you to use 5 or 6. So if you have more than 4digits in your PIN, your card may not work.

DH and I are linked to the same account, so while my PIN is 5 digits, his is 4 digits, so one of them is bound to work.

Mine was 4 digits. Perhaps it isn't enough to have an Interac-compatible card; maybe banks have to enable their cards to be used with U.S. ATMs or something?

I have used my PC Financial card at ATMs in England, France, Germany, and throughout the United States without any problem at all.

This must have changed because we had nothing but problems ith our pc card while trying to use it in the US. We now bank elsewhere so hopefully it sounds like they have fixed that glitch!

On previous trips we were not able to use our Cdn debit cards anywhere on Disney property, however they did work sporatically at various places in Orlando.

I've never had trouble with my PC debit card in the states. I have however been caught in the trap of a 48 hour delay in transfering money out my ING or PC Savings account so I know how you feel. I just upped my credit card limit, bought what I needed and paid cash on my account as soon as I could get it cleared. I than brought my credit card limit back down (I don't want to be too tempted). I did have to fight with the credit card company to go back down to my lower limit. They really wanted me to keep my limit high. Go figure!

Each individual Canadian bank makes their own arrangements with USA banks and bank card acceptability. Interac has nothing to do with this. For RBC clients:

"You can also use your Client Card to make point-of-sale (debit) purchases at any of the 1,000,000 merchants in the United States that use the NYCE# Network. "

So, if the merchant displays the NYCE logo, you can use your RBC client card at that debit terminal.

For about the past year or so, we have had very little trouble using our two debit cards (one TD, one credit union) in the states -- I pay by debit at Target, Walmart, Tops, and Sams Club for example -- but in the past we did have poor experiences. One thing we've found, though, is often when paying by debit in stores we are NOT given a choice between Savings and Chequing. The transaction defaults to Chequing and that can't be changed. That presented a problem for us once as we wanted to pay out of Savings and couldn't. But we know that now so make sure Chequing has lots of funds in it

Not sure when it might have changed or if there was anything to change because I've been using my PC Financial bank card at foreign ATMs for over 5 years now with no problems at all.

I suspect it has everything to do with the specific machines (or banks/networks associated with them) rather than geographical location within the U.S. Glad to hear (sort of) that I wasn't the only one that had problems accessing my account at a Disney ATM.

I'm not sure about using it as a Debit Card but when we stayed at ASM in April 2006 I had no problem using their ATM machine, we use National Bank.
