I am just mulling and planning and wondering and thinking and all that.........

For those who have stayed at DCR - I understand that to get to the Park you need to travel on the A4 for one junction. If going to the Park for EMH, before 8 in the morning, does that mean you are in the middle of rush hour traffic? :scared: What is that like?

If I were to visit in August then the Park is open from 8 in the morning until (presumably) 11 at night. My favourite times would be early in the morning and late at night, but there is no way my feet would stand up to 15 hours so I would be looking for a long break in the middle of the day for a swim and study of my eyeballs. Has anybody done this while staying at DCR? Does it become a nuisance to have to go get the car and drive to DCR and then drive back later?

Has the breakfast changed at all since the photos posted in the sticky?

Like I said, just a-mulling and a-planning and a-wondering and a-thinking at this stage.....:rolleyes1

We stayed at DCR for 2 nights at Christmas and went in for EMH one morning. The traffic was fine. We didnt do breakfast at the ranch that day as we had a late booking at Cafe Mickeys so basically got up and went and were waiting at bag check before 8.00.

We only returned to the ranch on the first day when we went to book in and then returned to the park.

I have mixed feelings about staying there to be honest. It was lovely and is certainly a relaxing place but the driving back and forth could become a hassle especially if you didnt all want to return at the same time- no chance of someone returning early to study their eyelids:rotfl: while the others browse in the Village

Saying that the pool there is lovely and a good place to relax.

We are staying there again next week but only for one night. In summer we have chosen to stay at Sequioa Lodge as we wanted somewhere with a pool to escape during the day but really fancied being onsite for ease.

The breakfast is still the same - thats a real plus point no fighting the crowds in the restaurant you get so much and its lovely to eat it in the peace of your cabin

We went tor EMH every day we were there, and the only busy bit was getting on to the roundabout since all the traffic was coming from the junction in front of us, but it wasn't a problem, just a slight delay. Otherwise the roads were fine. As we have small children we didn't stay very late so we didn't come back in the middle of the day, and I'm afraid we didn't take advantage of the pool at all. It really was just a place to sleep. One thing we found with the breakfast, although the food was very nice, the little hut on our loop didn't open on time for 3 out of the 4 days we were there, so DH was standing in the freezing cold for half an hour. Of course, that wouldn't be such a problem in the summer but it is something for us to balance against the queues for breakfast in the other hotels. By the time Dh got back to the 'cabin' we barely had time to eat before we had to rush off for EMH.

We travelled this frequently and didn't find it a problem. Most of the cars just pull out at the slip road whereas we gave way, but didn't struggle to get out.
On most days we travelled backwards and forwards to the park, the village, val d'europe and DCR.
We'll be doing it for 14 days this trip :woohoo:

a fortnight at dlp sounds about right!

we had afternoon breaks three days out of 7 - we had lunch, had a swim, twice went to auchan. it was possible to miss the rush time and get back after the crowds die down.

the drive wasn't too bad - 15-20 minutes? no traffic at all.
we parked in hotel new york with our dream passes.

breakfast doesn't start until 7.30 am so we ate in the car or later on - we love EMH!

Thanks for the replies. One more thing has occurred (sorry!) - was it too hot in summer with no air conditioning?

Even though we had a really hot summer last year we did not find the cabins uncomfortable.
We may have shut the curtains on some days, but most have shade with surrounding trees :)

We went last August and did exactly what you are planning. The breakfast hut did not open til 7.30am - so 3 out of 4 mornings we drove past in the car, grabbed the boxes, and put them in the boot! Drove to HNY and got to EMH by 8am, lovely no queues at all. By early afternoon we were ready to head back, eat our breakfast bread & croissants with some extra ham etc for lunch, rest, then hit the pool. Another rest before back to the parks for evening meal, much quieter rides, Fantillusion & fireworks. This suited DS, 6 yrs old then, who managed to keep the pace going quite well due to the rest times. DCR was great for this - we found the travelling really easy, and never a problem with traffic. :)

I am now booking 4 nights in July with the same kind of plan.

:worship: :worship: Thanks for these answers. My head is spinning - I've just read the reviews on Expedia and some of these are AWFUL! I was starting to think it was a no-no but now I see Disers are more in favour of it - that does change things again!

Decisions, decisions :confused3

I'm impressed by the fact that most of you are going back again......

Many's the time I've sat here :surfweb: and read appalling reviews on Expedia/Trip Advisor for hotels we've booked. I try to bear in mind that people are more likely to complain about a bad experience than rave about a good one. Luckily, we've always had good experiences.
