Well, I just spent 45 minutes on the phone with WDW-DINE trying to make a surprise reservation for my parents for the Candlelight Processional package at Le Cellier.

All's well that ends well, and I did get the reservation I wanted (although I had to call my mom on the other line and get her CC info since my name is not on her resort reservation -- "don't worry about the $127 charge, mom, it's only temporary... but I can't tell you why!" :upsidedow

Anyway, I was told that the card would be charged in advance, and that if they decide to go with the DDP and use their 2 TS credits for the meal, the charge would be automatically refunded. Is this typical? Any issues I should be aware of in trying to manage this for them? My intention is that if they go with the DDP, I'll give them a fat gift card in lieu of paying for the package itself.

Hmmm... when I made my CP reservations yesterday the CM told me the credit card was just a "guarantee" like a hotel. If we don't show up, it is automatically charged. She told me we would actually pay for the meal when we ate it and could pay however we wanted.

Interesting, thanks. I suppose the CM could have been mistaken, and an actual charge will not be placed.... :confused3

Concierge for AKL made my reservations or Candlelight Dining Package. I have a booking number but nothing is charged to my Card until we eat there. Although there is a 48 hour cancellation policy for it. So if We don't show we will be charged.

OP -- I got both answers. I called the first time and got your CM who told me that my card will be charged in advance for the entire price (4 adults). Then I read on this website that you pay at the restaurant...now I'm scared. Will I have to pay twice?? So the next day I call because we booked lunch but wanted to change it to dinner. So I get a different CM who makes the change for me, but needs my cc to "hold" the reservation. I asked, is it a $10 no show like other places and she said no. If you don't show the entire price will be charged to your cc. I told her about my conversation the day before and told I HAD to pay upfront and she said that CM was incorrect. It was just a hold. I've been watching my cc statement everyday in case it shows up. I made sure she cancelled my first reservation, but kept all of my notes in case I do get charged.

I booked our CP dinner package on Sept. 2 and gave my cc info. We are not on the dining plan. They know we will be paying OOP. I was told by the cast member when I booked that if I decided to cancel I must give at least 2 days notice or I would be billed the full amount. Since that ADR is the 5th day of our vacation I'm not worrried about the 2 day notice policy. I just checked my unbilled activity on my cc account and a charge from a local restaurant on Sept. 6 is there but no Disney charge from Sept. 2.

I recently booked Hoop Dee Doo online, and had to pay at checkout with a credit card. I'm using DDP so I was wondering the same thing about your CP question.

I called to make CP reservations and they said it was just a guarantee and nothing would be charged to my card. I asked about Hoop Dee Doo and they said since I already made the reservation, it would be refunded when I used DDP at the meal, OR they could make me a new reservation with only a credit card guarantee (nothing charged now), and I'd use DDP at the meal. They did that, and cancelled my first ressie, they assured me it would be refunded that day.

There are things that DO need to be paid in advance. The shows like Hoop Dee Doo, Cinderalla Royal Table are two that come to mind.

Desired ADRs like Processional, Chef Mickeys, Fantasmic, Speciality Cruises require a credit card to hold the reservation. I assume if you don't cancel within the 48 hours and don't show up they will charge the card.

Regular reservations for something like Tony's - no credit card guarantee.

Interesting - still no consistent answer! I'll report back on whether the CC gets charged.

I would not want to cancel and re-book, as it's entirely possible that I wouldn't be able to get Le Cellier again for the timeslot I wanted. Plus it was a nightmare to book in the first place :)

When I called on Monday I was told my cc would be charged. I told her I thought it was only a hold, but she said no. That I would be charged for the entire $200+ amount. Today is Thursday and nothing has shown up on my cc. I did cancel that ADR the next day, and I rebooked and that CM said it was only a hold. I've been watching my cc, but so far, nothing...
