I hope this is the correct place for this,

I have to have some blood work done while at WDW. It can't be done before or after because doing so would prevent me from having a procedure before the end of the year.

Anyway, my plan was to look up the nearest Quest and have the orders faxed there. Then on the day I need to go, rent a car (maybe do the night before) from Alamo or National and take care of it as quickly as possible.

Does this seem like the easiest way? Would anyone recommend (or not recommend) a particular Quest location?

Thanks

I know there is one off Turkey Lake Road but I'm not sure if it's the closest. Have you contacted Quest to get a list of their locations in the WDW area?---Kathy

I have a list of all the quest locations in a 15 miles radius of WDW. I found the closest to my hotel (AKL) The S. Semoran location is the closest but only by a mile.

The South Semoran is really not the closest to AKL, it is the closest to the ZIp Code 32830 and is actually out North of the the airport. Based on the location of AKL, you are better off using 34747 as the Zip Code instead of 32830.

My two suggestions would be the Davenport North Blvd (which is off US 27 a little South of Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center) or the Orlando Turkey Lake Road which is one intersection North of the Dr Phillips Hospital.

I would also hand carry a copy of any orders with me just in case. And don't forget your medical insurance card.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the advice. I hope I can do this so it won't take up the entire morning.

Don't forget to check whether you need to be fasting or not. Some (not all) blood tests require no food or drink for up to 10 hours before the test. It would be horrible to get all the way to the test center and realize you weren't fasting and have to go back the next day.

Check with Disney. My husband was having trouble with his eye on a trip and Disney offered to take him to a nearby hospital or urgent care. I don't know the names of the facilities there, but they gave him a number to call when he was finished, then they picked him up and offered to deilver him to any hotel or park. It would be worth the call to ask.

I have done this but was staying off property at the time. I brought the orders w/me and had it done, no problem.

I agree. I have a standing order because I get blood work done weekly, and depending on the quest location I go to they want my insurance card even thought it is copied onto the order. I would also bring in a copy of the order, I have been a quests where an order has been faxed over and they say they haven't recieved it. Also, go online a make an appointment. I have waited for hours to get blood work done but if you have an appointment you can be in and out quickly.

Thanks everyone. I booked a rental car and will arrange for pick up at my hotel the morning I am going. I have an early appt (8 am) and will be picking up a copy of my orders (and some paperwork for traveling on a plane with needles FUN!). I always carry my insurance cards so that shouldn't be a problem. I will pack my GPS, so directions should be fairly simple (but will also print them off).

I guess I am as ready as I will ever be. In a way its good timing because its a little over half way through the trip and if we need anything (milk what not) I can pick it up while I am out.

That's great that you have everything set up. I just want to let anyone know who would be in the same situation, I just found that quest has an app for iPhones and blackberry to make appointments. It will give you a list of close locations and once you schedule your appointment it keeps it listed so you can access you appointment time, It was really easy and was much faster then going on their web site.

Hi all -
I just got back and thought I would update with my experience. I used the Quest in Davenport. It was very easy to get to I-4 to some other highway. The only issue I had was poor signs and the road I was looking to turn left on was named one name on one side of the highway and another on the second. I realized it less than a mile down the road so I didn't lose much time.
I was extremely happy I made an appt. The waiting room was packed. Even with the appt, I waited 30 minutes. The only issue that came up was with the actual tests on the blood. When I made the appt I called and asked about how long the results took for the specific tests I needed and I specified that they were STAT orders. No problem. The results would be to the doctor that afternoon. Great. I confirmed at the appt. The results of one of the tests came back 2 days later because they don't do that test stat (????). So it delayed the start of my medication, but not the end of the world.

Glad to have helped you out. That is where I normally go for my testing. Next time someone asks I will be sure to give real directions.
