Question re: AP discounts

Hey, I was planning on bridging our UT tickets into AP's once they've been "activated" at the gate. But, in regards to food discounts, does everyone in the party need to have the Preferred Pass or only one person in the group? I've tried to find the answer to this specific question but haven't had any luck. I would prefer to upgrade just one of us to the Preferred and do the lower one for the rest. But, if need be I can manage the cost of all. Just trying to get the most bang for the least buck!

Ok, that's awesome! So, for my family of four only one member will need to be a Preferred and the rest of us can be Power Pass?! Sweet!!

you're correct.
as long as the person who bears the AP is present at time of purchase, you're good

don't forget to mention you have AP when you get to the register.
The first few times I made purchases, I used to forget about the discount ...but it has now become second nature

Thanks so much!! I can't to tell my DH that he will be saving money by getting the passes!! Between parking, food , merch...and if I did my math right (which is debatable) it's only going to cost us about $60 out of pocket to get the passes!! We are starting with the 3 day park to park passes from UT. I'm assuming bridging the tickets is based on gate prices and not the discounted price they give you if you order them early from Universal Studios directly? I just want to make sure I'm not missing something.

From everything I have read, yes as long as you enter the park and then do the upgrade.

We just did this last month. For my son and I to upgrade to power passes it was free. We had to pay $10 for my daughter's since she had a child ticket. We paid $95 for my husband's since he got the preferred pass.

Yes we have 2 power and 1 preferred and just used to show the preferred for the AP discounts.

Go into the park using your tickets and upgrade at guest services inside the park.

We have 4 Power and 1 preferred. We did it initially thinking it would help us mainly to get free parking. (Our last trip was a split stay, on and off site. Though our next one is on site. The one after that is off-site). However, we will end up far ahead thanks to that extra 10% off of food and merchandise for our family. We just make sure to have the person with the preferred do the paying. More than once, we handed them the wrong one and it wasn't a big deal to switch it for the right one.
