Question on using points from 2 resorts

If someone holds deeds to two different resorts, can you use your points together? Can VB points and BCV points be combined to go on a Disney Cruise? Does anyone know how the managment from two resorts works? ALSO, a Vero Beach resale is listed at approx. $65.00 per point - wouldn't it make sense to purchase this and use these cheaper points at the higher prices resorts (understanding that there is the 7 month reservation limit at other resorts other than your home resort.)? Trying to educate myself before our BCV purchase closes next month.

If you have points from two (or more) resorts, yes they can be combined at any time to do non-DVC trips....like the cruise.

They can also be combined for use at DVC resorts but ONLY after the 7 month window. As an example, you have 150 BWV points and 50 Vero points. You can book BWV during the 11-7 month window using those points (also banking and borrowing). At Vero you can book using the 50 points (plus banking & borrowing). After the 7 month mark, you could book at either resort using all 200 points.

Yes, using "cheaper" points when the home resort priority isn't needed is possible. However, you may want to take into account the different maintenance costs to determine if it really is cheaper in the long run. Currently, Vero has a high maintenance cost.

Yes, points may be combined for options like the cruise. Those options may be reserved 11 months ahead, but can be combined for DVC reservations only at 7 months.

Resale purchases can be a good way to save some $$, but you should plan to purchase where you intend to stay the most. If you want to reserve primarily at VB, then that would be a wise purchase. if you intend to stay at onsite resorts, you may find the 11 month priority a more comfortable benefit. You can also consider a resale at OKW or BWV (or just stay with your BCV purchase). You should also consider dues for the long term.

Yes, you can use points from 2 home resorts for a single reservation as long as you are at the 7 month booking window or less. Yes, you can use points from various contracts for booking a cruise.

The dues at VB are slightly higher than at other resorts, so that is something to consider. This could change, but apparently it has to do with the oceanfront location and upkeep costs. FWIW, that didn't stop DH & I - we bought at VB to use magical beginnings that were offered at the time, and because my mother (and father prior to his passing) owns a home not far from VB.

They say buy at the resort at which you wish to stay the most. That hasn't been an issue for us - we have stayed most at WDW resorts - but depending on your vacation date needs, it could have an important bearing.

There's one caveat to the above. Some of the exchange options require the points to be in one account so if you have truly separate account number, you may have problems with MS esp if you need to transfer banked or borrowed points. They can do it but they sometimes need some convincing. Plus just the idea that the points will be transferred may affect one's decision.

We own points at OKW, BW, and BCV. I haven't had any major problems booking and using a combination of the points. The only problem I have encountered is that I do need to tell MS to use the points from one resort before borrowing points at another resort. I find it a little harder to keep track of points and which ones I am using. I am always asking MS to send me a point report. I have also booked an II resort outside of Disney using a combination of points. MS didn't have any problems combining my points from different resorts.
