Question on upgrading to an AP

Okay. APs have not been on my radar but as I was daydreaming about my upcoming weekend and a trip in January - maybe - just maybe. I have 3 questions for anyone who can help me out::

On Sunday, my DH will have a 1day Disneyland only ticket and a ticket to Oogie Boogie. Can he walk to the booth at the end of the party and use the value of both tickets towards an AP? As we have a trip planned in January - that sounds like it would make sense if he can really use both values? When upgrading from a party ticket to an AP, do you get the full value?

I also have two unused 1 day park hopper tickets that I won in an auction. I have no way of knowing the paid value of those tickets - or if they were comped somehow - do you know I can trade those in towards an AP? I was going to bring those in January and convert them to 3 day hoppers, but if I can also include the Oogie Boogie ticket - a flex pass sounds more enticing.

And 3 - If I add maxpass to the other tickets, and it already exists on Oogie Boogie - does it then apply to the Flex pass? Or the value paid for maxpass can get credited to the $100 maxpass charge?

Appreciate any advice

If the tickets you won were purchased by someone for the auction, the ticket will state it’s value on it (this is highly unlikely). If they were donated by Disney, they are comp tickets and will have no stated value. Comp tickets cannot be used towards an AP, they also cannot be sold by anyone other than the organization they were given to. So don’t do as suggested above and try to sell them.

The Oogie Boogie ticket does not apply toward an AP upgrade. While APs may get a small discount on select nights, they too have to buy separate entry party tickets even if their AP is valid that day. You can only use one ticket toward the upgrade to an AP, so two single-day tickets will not be able to be applied toward the same AP or toward a single other type of ticket upgrade so you can't convert the two 1-day tickets to a single 3-day hopper. If the 1-day tickets were not comped and do have value on them, then they each could be upgraded to a higher value ticket or AP. If they were comped by Disney, they will have no upgrade value.

I don’t think that you can apply 2 tickets to one AP upgrade. Maxpass App purchases don’t usually apply to an upgrade.

Thanks for the replies. I saw a post that your app tells you you can upgrade to an AP when your Oogie Boogie ticket is scanned. Same thing happened when we attended the Marvel party earlier this year. I haven’t heard of anyone who has done this to know if they applied the whole amount or just maybe have a discount?

I did go and see the fine print about not combining two tickets - so I guess either way it wouldn’t matter.

I’ll check the back of my other tickets. It doesn’t make a ton of sense to get my husband an AP if the rest of us don’t have one.

OK, the halloween tickets are upgradeable. BTDT. Next, *IF* the 2 tickets have value (ie not comped) and they are completely unused, I have used 2 tickets to upgrade to an AP. They treat it like the UNUSED tickets are a gift card. But you cannot use 2 USED 1 day tickets to upgrade, such as how you proposed your DH situation.

Really, the Halloween tickets are upgradeable? That kind of stinks if you are an AP already and had to pay full price in addition... The 2 unused tickets being applied toward a new ticket I have heard of in the past, but I thought I read somewhere that that can no longer be done. Perhaps I was mistaken. You are usually more up-to-date on this stuff than I am.

Does this work at WDW too? (The Halloween party ticket upgrade) Do they upgrade in MDE? The last time I had WDW APs I just bought them on the Disney site so I could make my fast passes.

Try asking this on the WDW forum -- MNSSHP is going on now, so someone may have tried this recently and could answer your question with updated information.

This is what we have been told at the booths -- one ticket, fine; more than one ticket, not fine. It used to be allowed -- and we've done it, but not recently -- but CMs at the booths have told us that it hasn't been allowed in a few years. Of course, this being DLR, YMMV with any CM at the booths.

I think we got lucky. My niece got 2 3 day park hoppers from relatives, and we took them to the booth in April and used them towards her Sig pass.

Wow, I remember trying to do that (2 tickets towards one AP) way back in 2003/2004 and was told no.

I looked and the auction tickets were comped so - good to know we can't use those towards an AP, and I'm glad I came and asked for input because it didn't cross my mind I wouldn't be able to upgrade those to 3 day hoppers in January. So I will have my husband and his friend use the comped tickets this weekend - and then in January we will just get 3 day hoppers. Thanks again to everyone for the input!

What does DTDT stand for? I am drawing a blank.
