I was telling DDs (ages 7 and 4) about Turtle Talk with Crush. We've never seen it before and its definitely on the list of things to do next month. However, they both do NOT want to be picked on to ask a question. Do they only pick kids who have their hands raised, or do I need to have them not sit in the front row? Thanks!

My DD10 is the same way and hates to be picked out of a crowd. When we saw Crush we sat on the side, up a few rows, and tried to "blend in". From what I remember, only those front and center seemed to be chosen. Good luck!

Generally, Crush will make his selection based on kids raising their hands, but also base on kids having something identifiable on. "Let's talk to the little dude in the yellow hat", for example. Just have your kids sit to the back of the kids' group, and don't put them in bright orange shirts or big purple deely-boppers, and you'll be fine. If nothing else, if the CM comes up to them and says, "Do you have a question for Crush?", all they have to do is say "No."

:earsboy:

During our visit, he picked a kid in the front row who was picking his nose. His dad was so proud!. Glad it wasn't my kid (although it certainly could have been)

:lmao: I bet that kid will never pick his nose in public again!

my 8 year old son was picked to ask a question last week, but he had his hand raised...thankfully, he asked a good one...

our 4yr old granddaughter wears glasses and was sitting near the back and had her hand raised. Dude Crush asked to speak to the girl with the swim goggles. She still laughes and giggles, when I ask who's the girl with the swim goggles. BTW, her question was How do turtles hatch?

We've got the opposite problem - my daughter is crushed (pun not intended initially) when she is not picked and inevitably tears will follow. I think the problem for her is that she actually did get picked the first time we went and she now expects that as the way it is supposed to be.

There is a certain part of the floor that the kids sit on that makes you eligible to be picked. If your kids sit on the benches with you, there is no chance they'd be picked. :)

I know how she feels, because when we went back later in the week, our GD was disappointed that she couldn't ask another question even though she was upfront. But we talked about the importance of everyone taking a turn in having a chance to ask their question and learn. I hope that at some point in time that Dude spends less time talking to "the parental unit" and more time with the kids.

But, now YOU'RE complaining that Crush talked to some adults and not more kids!

Still the same "importance of everyone taking a turn in having a chance..."

I love the interaction of Crush with adults.

Many times the adults are much funnier in their reactions than some of the shy kids.

When we were there, that's what I thought - low and behold a girl in the back on the benches stood and raised her hand - and was picked - turned out she was born in Hawaii ( I think that was her question - and then Crush asked her where she was hatched - he wasnt sure if she just said Hawaii at first or she was really born there, her parents nodded, so it was an interesting exchange!)

so I think Crush tries and picks enthusiasitc kids - so many raise their hands and then "forget" the question!
