Renting is where you pay someone to make a reservation for you and they retain control of the reservation until you check in.

Transfers are when you pay someone for their points and they are transferred into your account to use.

Though I believe the POS prohibits tranfers for money so the $$$s shouldn't be referenced when you call MS to set up the transfer.

You are limited to one transfer in or out per UY per membership. When you receive a transfer into your account, these become your points to do with as you wish. But they maintain their UY and resort.

One more question on this sorry. If somebody transfers points to me can these be used in combination with my own points for the same reservation towards an upgraded room? Basically if I have 185 points at SSR and need 220 lets say for a 1bed can I transfer somebodies points to make up the difference?

Yes, but you may be hard-pressed to find someone who is willing to blow their one transfer per year on 35 points. In that situation, you may have to buy more points in a transfer than you were originally look for.

Yes but as Deb & Bill said, transferred points retain their home resort and UY. If you want to book a room at SSR 11 months out you would need to transfer in SSR points. If you transferred in, say, AKV points, they could not be used for a SSR reservation until 7 months out. They could be used to book AKV 11 months out however.

The online booking system does not handle transferred points very well. You'll be able to see the points online only if they have the same UY of your contract. Otherwise only MS can see them and to book you need to call.

If you need up to 24 points, you can buy them directly from Disney, at the cost of 15$ per point. This need to be done with MS on the phone.

Thank you I think I would prefer this option. Had not considered this! You genius! :-)

I've purchased one-time-use points from MS. It's very easy. However you can only use them when making a reservation 7 months out. You cannot purchase OTU points to make a reservation in the 11-month window.

I see. That makes sense. I would book a studio at 11 months then at 7 months see if I can upgrade if not no worries! Thanks for your help.
