I am wondering what your thoughts are if this would be worth it for my family.

My first question is - can you purchase it with gift cards? That would be a little savings with the cards i had purchased through target.

Secondly -- this is my situation. I will be attending a conference staying at BWV April 18-22 2017. May do 1 or 2 TS meals (just for myself and one co-worker). We will then be doing an extended family trip AKV April 15-21st 2018. We will have 7 of us. 4 adults and 3 children (5, 12,12) - so technically 6 Disney adults and 1 child. We will likely do quite a few character meals -CRT, maybe BOG and crystal palace. I do see a number of restaurants that we like on the list, but it doesn't appear that there is any discount on CS restaurants. We are not drinkers either so really would not benefit there as that can add a significant amount to your bill.

If i were to get it - do i purchase online inadvance of my first trip and if i were to purchase on or just about 4/18/17 would the card still be valid for my entire 2nd trip of 4/15/18-4/22/18?

1. Yes, you can use gift cards to purchase it.
2. That many days, people, and meals, it certainly sounds like you'll be well above the break-even point for purchasing the card.
3. Only AP and Florida residents can purchase in advance. DVC must purchase in person. You get more time out of it if you purchase in person. Staying at BWV, it's pretty easy to walk over to the International Gateway to buy the card.

DVC must purchase in person

I called and bought mine over the phone. Was no problem at all; I simply provided my member number. In fact, I called in July for my trip early September, and the CM set my order to automatically process on 8/1 so it would have a 9/30/2017 expiration. I got it in the mail the second week of August.

Do you also have an annual pass, or live in Florida? The terms are pretty clear on this one:

From tablesinwonderland.com:
  • If you are a Disney Vacation Club Member, visit any Guest Relations location at a Walt Disney World® Theme Park or Disney Springs™ to purchase your Tables in Wonderland membership. Please present your Photo ID and your DVC Membership Card.
  • If you are a Florida Resident or Walt Disney World® Resort Passholder, visit any Guest Relations location at a Walt Disney World® Theme Park or Disney Springs™ to purchase your Tables in Wonderland membership. Florida Residents and Walt Disney World® Resort Passholders may also purchase over the phone. Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery when purchasing by phone.

What is the break even point? I have a trip coming up and am considering purchasing the card. TIA

The TIW card is $150 for DVC Members and AP holders. The break even point is $750.

I am assuming you are a DVC member, in which case the TIW would cost $150. With a 20% discount, you need to spend $750 to break even. If you take into acount possible DVC 10% discounts at many places, you probably should assume you need to spend about $1,000 to both break even and justify the card over just using DVC discounts. If you believe you will spend more than that in the two trips you plan in April 2017 and then April 2018, then it might be worth purchasing

DVC member needs to purchase at a ticket booth or guest services at WDW. Moreover, I would not purchase over the phone even if allowed. Why?. Read post above. Purchaser called in July to get it for a September 2016 trip. Card mailed had an Aug 1, 2016 start date, a month before first trip was even to occur, and then a September 30, 2017 end date. When you purchase it at WDW at the time you show up for your first trip to use the card, its effective date will be the date you purchase it and it will then be good until the end of the thirteenth month thereafter. In other words, buy it on April 18, 2017 and it will be good until May 31, 2018.

If you think you'll spend $1k or more, TIW may be worth it. The $750 amount isn't taking into consideration the dvc 10% at many places.

I did it this year for the convenience and bc we have 2 weeks with 4 adults, 4 kids and 5 TS meals.

Nope to both questions. I simply called and asked and they took my order without any problems. I saw that on the web site and called because I wanted to see about using it on dinner as soon as we arrived (without having to go to a park or disney springs first), and the CM just took my information and sent me the cards.
