Question on switching points for stay

I am planning on booking a room for February 09 with 08 December use year points. I also have a resale that is supposed to close by January 15th. That resale has a March use year and has 90 borrowed points from the 07 use year coming with it. These points have to be used by the end of February 09.
My question is:

Can I book a ressie using my december 08 points and then switch to my 07 points after the transaction closes? I understand that my 08 points will go into a holding account (if within 30 days of ressie), but that isn't a problem as I will be using them this year. Is this possible, or will I have to cancel and rebook?

Not in the situation you describe. The problem is you will have two contracts with two separate use years (and actually two separate member numbers) and those don't mix (to reserve a vacation using two use years, you generally need to reserve some of the nights with one contract and the rest with the other and then link the two beccause you cannot mix the contracts to reserve any single night). Because of that you won't be able to take points from one contract/use year and then put them into the existing reservation while taking some other points out from your first contract/use year. You would need to cancel and rebook and that risks losing the reservation entirely.

There may be possibility that MS might allow those 90 points that are coming with March Use Year contract you are waiting to close on to be banked. Please don't get your hopes up that this in fact will happen but MS has on occasions made exceptions; so it doesn't hurt to ask. When your purchase is complete you'd need to have conversation asap with probably a MS castmember in a supervisor/specialist capacity just as soon as the points from your contract are in the system.

It sounds like the points are Mar 07 points that were already banked into Mar08 UY thus they expire in Feb 09. They couldn't be banked a second time.

Yes they are 07' points. I guess I'll either have to take a quick last minute trip or try and firesale them.
