Question on Points Usuage

I am thinking of buying a DVC Resale. I really like the Beach Club Resotrt and heard that it is hard to get into, therefore I am thinking of buying into that resort. I have two questions.

1- If I buy points at Beach Club (150 points) and I want to supplement with other points, do they need to also be at the Beach Club if I want to take advantage of the 11 month booking or can they be at OKW. Also, do they have to be the same Month as my Contract?

2- If I buy a resale and I want to make sure I get first pick at the December bookings (11 months), do I buy a January contract?

If you want to book at 11 months, yes, they must be at the same resort. You only get the 11 month priority for the number of points you own at that resort.

Use year does not matter in either of the questions you asked--add-on contracts or booking. Your Use Year determines two things: when you RECEIVE your points each year and the deadlines for banking your points if you will not use them.

Reservation windows are based entirely upon the date you want to stay. If you want to stay at DVC on 12/15, you can book on 1/15 (at your home resort) as long as you have the points available when your stay actually occurs (on 12/15).

Only the points for the BCV can be used at the 11 month window. You can use the OKW points at BCV when the 7th month window opens.

Also, do they have to be the same Month as my Contract?

No. But, keeping track of of points from contracts with different use years is a little more difficult/time consuming than keeping track when all contracts have the same use year.

Use year doesn't have anything to do with when you can make the reservation. For your home resort, you can always make the reservation 11 months ahead of departure - doesn't matter when your use year is.

First of all, welcome to the DIS boards! You've certainly hit on the right spot to ask DVC questions.

You can only book at your home resort at the 11 month booking window. So no, you cannot book at the 11 month mark using both "home" and "other DVC resort" points. You'd have to wait to the 7 month mark to add your days using the other contract. Of course, in your example, you can borrow from the BCV contract to make the entire reservation, and bank the unused points from the OKW contract to utilize the following year.

No, if you're buying resale you can purchase any use year month that you want. If you're buying an additional contract from Disney, they will want the use years to be the same. We own a VWL contract with February use year and bought a resale BWV contract with an October use year. No problem.

Use year has nothing to do with when you can book a vacation. The only thing that matters is that you will have the points available when you take your vacation.

For instance, with my BWV October contract, I could call today and book a January, 2005 vacation with the points I'll be getting in October.

The 11 month window and 7 month window have nothing to do with use year. The use year is just the date when your points "refresh" and is the statistic that sets your banking deadlines.

Thanks. I now have a better understanding. Got a little confused on the Use Year. I think I understand it now.
