Question on my Nikon Coolpix 5600

I have had my camera for a couple of years now and have been wondering about this..so i just remembered there was a photography board so i figured i would ask.

After i take a picture, the monitor goes blank for a bit and i have to wait to take another picture. Is there a setting that I can change to just be able to take another picture right away? I looked through the book and cannot find anything.

I have no idea if this question even makes sense--but when my cousin was here last week, she was able to just take picture after picture, so i figured i would ask

I had a Coolpix 3100 a while back. If I understand what you are describing, I think that is the camera writing the image file to the memory card. Mine took a long time too. Chances are your cousin had a newer/fancier camera where the write times are faster. No setting will help. If you have a slow memory card, a faster card might help. But chances are the problem lies with the camera, not the card.

We have a 4600- it is the 4mp version of the 5mp one you have- its pretty slow compared to the newer ones we have. If using the flash it takes a few seconds for it to be able to another picture. It also takes a short time to write to the card. We have used reg speed and Ultra2 in our 4600 and it doesn't seem to make it much faster. My DH uses the 4600- mostly for hiking. Outdoors it works a bit faster but when he used the kids Canon A540 or Coolpix L6 he couldn't believe how much faster they are than the 4600.

You can buy the best, fastest card for your camera and that will help. Cheaper cards can write slower, so a good card is worth the extra money.
