Hi, I have rented points for me and my two daughters for February. My wife may or may not be able to come with us, right now the reservation is only for me and my two daughters. I have read you can add if the points owner is willing to call member services and add her on. There is not a good timetable to resolve if my wife will be able to go or not. I am wondering if I should just try and get her added to the reservation. I assume that it is a bigger deal if someone else shows up for a DVC rental that is not on it than if one person who is on it does not come? Advice?

Does your contact say what they will or will not do? If it says they will add guests, then I would contact the owner and have her added. It is much better that way. If she doesnt go, it’s not a big deal.

The only issue is the dining plan. If you decide you want that, which the owner has to add anyway, then having an extra person would mean paying for them too,

Best advice is double check the contracts and then contact the owner.

Yes, just have the owner put your wife's name on the reservation. It is okay as long as you are are below the occupancy limit of the room. You can leave her on it, even if she doesn't go.

The owner can add a name online - very easy. No call to DVC needed.
The main issue would be if the owner is willing to even bother themselves to log in and make the change. I would have no problem doing so and in fact I have added someone to a reservation. No skin off my nose and it literally takes less than 5 minutes from start to finish. But some owners use agencies to rent out their points so that they can don't have to deal with the people renting from them ... even to make a 5 minute change.

When I have rented to strangers, this was me, I charged less than others…like $3 to 4/point less…in exchange for no changes, including to guests, after 48 hours.

Now, I do think if I ever rented again on my own, I would probably change my practice,,,but more likely, I’d use a company and follow whatever rules they have for adjustments.

Can't he add her at the front desk when he checks in? All DVC studios sleep 4, so there shouldn't be a problem with the owner's account. I assume that if she goes, they are all traveling together.

I have rented out thousands of points thru a broker. I never minded making easy changes like this one.

My daughter tried that once and they just added her friend as a day guest as they said they had no way to modify the reservation

So, if someone wants to be sure they have all access, especially early entry, you’d want them on from the start.
