We bought resale. We get all our mailings, announcements and offers from Dough Rapp -- "our guide." However, we never met him and have never spoken with him. I assume we bought him with the points.

If we were to transact something by mail, we would work through him. But if we do a tour of BLT while we are there in April, do we have to use him? I have nothing against him, but I was just thinking of walking up and scheduling a tour. We don't know our schedule very far in advance so it would be hard to cal in advance and schedule a time before we get there.

BTW, anyone have experience with Mr. Rapp? I've never seen his name on this forum.

There are no 'tours' being given at BLT. There are model rooms of BLT located at SSR (the old theater). I believe hours are 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. You can just walk in and look. You do not need your guide.

There will be CM's there to answer questions.

DVC is not especially set up to tour current members. I know others in your situation have done so but it is not the norm. I'd contact your guide and tell them what you want. As noted, models are open just to walk in. As a member, you can go most anytime the sales center is open and ask the see them and they'll have a CM escort you over. If you want a full tour, you'll be better off scheduling ahead of time and preferably with your own guide if possible.

We'll just drive over to SSR. That was exactly what I was hoping to be able to do -- see them and show DW without a big tour and on our schedule.

Where are the models located at SSR?

We purchased through Disney in 2006 and added points in 2007. Doug Rapp is our guide. We have not met him personally, only dealt with him by telephone. He has been very helpful, returns our calls promptly and is a pleasure to deal with.

If you do take a walk though tour, expect your guide to make a follow up call. They will take your name and info (and you can say "I'm already a member, I'm just here to see the models) and your guide will follow up.

Eeew.

Oh well.:cool2:

We went thru the models a couple of months ago and did not receive a follow up from our guide. Some may, but others may not.

We stayed @ SSR and did a walk thru. haven't heard from our guide either.

If the models are truly open there will be a fold up sign out front of the theater and a guide inside to answer questions. If they are not open, go to the preview center and ask to see them. They will take your info and someone will take you over when available. Depending on specifics your guide may or may not know and I doubt most call to follow up.

True, I expect some guides are "better" about following up on a possible sale opportunity than others. But they WILL take your name and if you are a member, forward it to your sales rep so that they know you visited.

Last time we were at SSR, I took a friend over to see the AKL models. The models are open for members in the afternoon. A guide was there to answer questions, but after I told her I was a member she left me alone. At no time was I asked for my name or contact information.

I would also tell you that you should have no concerns with your Disney guide. They will gladly answer your questions, but they will not pressure you.

We toured the BLT model in November after purchasing from home in October. (We met our guide and toured the AKL model in June.) We did our tour not during the 5-7 window, our guide showed us around, gave us some materials we asked for (BLT point chart and promo materials), and took us over to get ice cream. He also answered my questions about adding on points at BCV and actually listened when I said I wasn't ready to go on the wait list and I would call him when I was. He has called me since to give me news about BLT changes (in opening and reservations launch date) but hasn't pushed me on the BCV interest, which I was clear about not being ready for and about the fact that I would call him the split second I was ready.

We considered DVC in 2007, we ended up by chance speaking to Doug Rapp over the phone. When we bought in 08 we went to one of the desks at our hotel (WL) the guide checked our name and had seen that we were in the computer as being one of Doug Rapp's clients. We didn't ask the guy at the WL do check our name in there system, he did it on his own.

So, by the above I would say that you are assigned one rep. and that will always be your point of contact for add-ons and changes.

I did the same thing in October on my first trip as a DVC member since I bought AKL without seeing the property first and was staying at SSR.
They never asked for any of my information either.

We visited the models on our last trip (October, 2008). No one asked us our name or to sign in. The CMs just smiled and told us which model was which (AKV or BLT). I think we could have figured that out on our own, though. :)

Your first point of contact is YOUR guide. They will generally not change that unless you force a change or that guide leaves. As a rule it doesn't matter since you really don't need to have much contact later. Still, DVC does use them for customer service and to educate new owners who buy resale in some situations plus if you do add on, you will generally work with your guide.

That has been our experience too and we've toured the rooms at SS at least 5 times (with different people) with the same results.

When I added on a few weeks back at the Doorway to Dreams event, my guide was one of the three on stage. Since she was there I actually had to wait for her to do my add on personally.

We initially purchased from Doug Rapp in 2001. We have used Doug for an additional 5 add-ons and 5 family members and friends have used Doug. He is extremely helpful and low key. I can't recommend him more.
