Hi... we are hoping to stay at a hotel across the street from Disneyland because my Mother and Sister-in-law can't walk long distances... I think I heard something about the "bag check" being moved and not at the ticket booths anymore... is this correct? If so, where did they move it to... will it be a long walk for my Mother and Sister-in-law? :(

Thanks

Its now at the entrances to the Espalanade (space between DL/DCA) coming from Harbor its right behind the ART shuttle area so right before the Ticket Entrances instead of at the Turnstiles-

It is a Wonderful spot for it as you only get checked as you enter and not for each park (esp if you are a collector of stuff as I am...) which helps reduce park hopping time :)

You don't really go out of your way, the only time it can be a pain is if you're trying to get from Harbor to Downtown disney or hotels, or vice versa. Because then you have to go through the bag check procedures so you can exit through the other side. During peak entrance time it can be even more of a pain because you have to stand in line, but I much prefer the new system to the old one where you had to stand in bag check lines to hop between parks. Also a plus is that if you rent a wheelchair in one park you can take it to the other park without returning it (same for Stroller also)

It's actually much more convenient than before IMHO.

Here's how we did it to save a headache for everyone (we had 12 people)....one person had the bag w/cameras, etc and all the others would work their way through the center area of the bagcheck (there are tables along the two sides for the checking of bags). That way, 11 people would get through without the line wait and be able to move around the center plaza while the last person did the bagcheck. Really helped w/the kids and grandmas being able to go rest or run around. Even the youngest kids (mine is 4) learned to just raise their arms and tell security loudly "NO BAGS, NO BAGS, NO BAGS".

We didn't find it to be an issue at any time. The longest it took was when we were going in for the parade or fireworks, and even that didn't take long. We each had a bag open and ready to be checked. (we had a back pack, small soft cooler with water in it, and the camera) The back pack was strapped on to the back of my scooter and as we waited in line ds would open it so it could be checked, dh took the cooler out of the basket and I had the camera. We closed everything up and put it away once we were in the plaza. No big deal at all. The only time I noticed anyone taking any amount of time was when people brought in what looked like fully packed duffle or diaper bags... then they unpacked them and had a good look.

If you're worried about the walking and standing, rent scooters while you're there, either from the park or somewhere else. I actually rented one for the whole week we were there from www.scootsaround.com That way I had it all the time, even for the trip over from HoJo's so even waiting in line to get into the park wasn't an issue for me.

Wow... thank you for all of your prompt replys... great info... you all are so awesome...

One more question... can ECV's (scooters) also be able to go back and forth between DL & DCA and DTD?... that would be so wonderful... thanks again everyone...

Yes, I believe we saw scooters going back and forth as well....just might be tricky to get one that has enough juice to last all day! Definitely better than checking out and checking in again at each park which was difficult for my mom when we took her at Xmas before the change.

Thank you... I sure hope the scooters can go back and forth with enough "battery" power... how cool would that be?... :Pinkbounc

No problem zipping back and forth on a scooter - they just open the big gate to let you through (the same one people with strollers use) I never saw anyone on a DL scooter with a dead battery, but I know mine went faster, ;) and was easier to steer. DL charges the scooters every night so they should hold an all day charge. There's a meter on them, too so you can see how much battery you have left. My rental from scootsaround lasted two days even with the trip back and forth from Howard Johnson's, and I did a lot of "touring" while waiting for dh and ds when they were in line or on rides.

Have fun!
