Question on DDP & Renting DVC Points

We are renting DVC points from DS's girlfriend's family. We've never done this before so we are new to renting points. We have a 2 BR villa and a studio suite at SSR for this December. We tried to get two 2 BR villas, but they only had one 2 BR and a studio suite left for the week we are there. We are in the Springs section. :cool1:

We are new to DVC, but not new to Disney. From what I've read so far on the DIS, it sounds like we can pay for the DDP. Is that correct or is it only for DVC members? I know if one gets it, everyone in the room has to get it. I've read that you can add it at any time up to a couple of days prior to our stay but have to pay for it in full at the time we add it, correct?

Also do we need to purchase tickets in order to add the DDP like you do when you stay in a regular room? We have APs so really don't want to buy tickets if we don't have to, but my kids will need to purchase tickets. I'm assuming they can purchase them at the resort and add them to their room keys at check in, correct? Or are we better off buying them ahead of time? Does the DVC member have to do this and also add the DDP? Or can we call to do this?

Thanks for any help or tips for our stay in December as we've never stayed at SSR before!

Yes, as a renter you can purchase one of the dining plans. The member you rented from would be the one that has to call to add it to the room reservation no later than 48 hours prior to your arrival day. It has to be paid for in full at the time it's added.

Thanks for your quick reply! ;) Do you know if we have to purchase tickets too?

Great! Then we'll only have to purchase tickets for my kids, but not sure if we'll do that ahead of time or wait till we check in.

Thanks to all for your quick responses!

You can request Springs section but no guarantee you will get it, it is simply a request.

DS's girlfriend told me we had Springs section (I didn't request it), but maybe her uncle told her he requested it and maybe she thought he said that's where we are booked. I didn't request any section because I didn't know what resort we were going to be at when he called to book it. He just booked what was available. I think she just misunderstood then.

I thought that maybe she might be wrong about the section, but who am I to question her since I've never done DVC before.

Thanks for the info!

The member that booked probably meant they requested Springs.

As noted, you can get the DDP. You can actually get it for one villa and not the other or different plans for each one if you choose.

you might save a few dollars by going through undercover tourist or mapleleaftickets online. worth looking into.

Yes, I was thinking about doing this, but I also like to get the tickets on the room keys. I'll decide when it gets a little closer to our date.

Thanks for the tip, Dean. Everyone is planning on getting the regular DP, but that's good to know in case someone changes their mind.

We have 27 (maybe 31) going, spread out over 3 resorts. Some have the FD, some room discount, including DD, DSIL (Air Force), & DGD who have the military discount and passes, and then 8 of us in the 2 BR villa and Studio Suite at SSR. I'm the one who is doing all the planning and dining reservations. It's not easy planning for a group this large  but I've done this several times before with up to 34 people! ;)

Yes, I'm sure that is what happened now that I know better. I know that when you book a regular room that it is only a request, but never renting points before, I wasn't sure if it was the same, so when she told me we had the Springs section, I believed her. I know her uncle was trying to book OKW first, but nothing available. I've never stayed at SSR, so I had no clue what was a good area to request.

She did mention that the CM told her uncle that we got the last 2 villas for our dates. Tried to get two 2 BR villas, but could only get one 2 BR and the studio.

Having multiple villas allows you to play some legal games with the DDP by orienting the guests to certain rooms for the DDP.
