Question on Candle Burning

What can you do if you have a jarred candle and it is burning low in the middle but not on around the edges and the wick is very small?

I know that you have to burn them long enough (at least 1 hour for each inch of width), but I have done this and I still have this problem.

Any candle burners have any suggestions?

I just blow the flame out and pour out a little bit of the candle wax to make the wick longer. I have never heard that rule about the length of time/width, I don't have that kind of time to keep a candle lit!

I just throw it away and buy a new candle. I've recently discovered that I like tarts and tart warmers better, because that doesn't happen.

I break up the pieces of wax that are left from a candle that doesn't have anymore wick and burn them in a tart burner. I also put pieces of the wax in a votive holder and burn that on an electric candle burner.

Don't burn too much wax at once, you only need a little bit of wax to release a good amount of smell.

DH and I went over to someone's house for a party once and noticed that all her jar candles had toppers and had melted evenly across the top, whereas ours were getting the same problem you've mentioned. We've used this on our newer candles to start them off right and even managed to fix some of our older candles that were having the problem. We did have to pour some melted wax out and push the wax sides down, but they're great now. The topper make a huge difference.

I know that I heard that at Partylight parties before. And perhaps it is in the Yankee Candle brochure. I often have my candles burning all day or all evening.

GREAT idea! I will have to give this a try because soon I am going to have a jarred candle with a hole down the middle and no wick.

after the candle has burned for a while and the wax is warm stick a knife or popsicle stick or pencil (whatever!) along the glass and "fold down" the warm wax toward the center. it comes right off the glass. you can even turn the edges down into the hot wax, just don't cover the wick. this works great!! i have now had 3 or 4 jar candles burn to the very bottom with nothing left on the glass! i saw this trick at a party light party and love it!!

Buy candles with two wicks and that won't happen. This is one of the reasons I stopped buying Yankee and switched to Gold Canyon, actually. I was tired of the uneven burn!

I use these and my candles tend to burn more evenly. But I do think it sometimes the scent isn't as strong with it on.

Check out Scentsy "candles" . They are in bar form. Each bar has 6 sections so you start with 3 for a LARGE house and add to it every couple weeks. You warm them in an light bulb heated warmer. If you happen to forget to turn it off, it is NOT a fire hazzard! If the wax is spilled, it wont burn you! The low heat burn means they TOTALLY last at least as long as a large Yankee and they are SOOOO cheap! They smell SOOO good, NOT cheap. Plus, no grey smoke on your walls. The light bulb warmer glows and casts shadows on the wall.

I LOVE this company and I used to be the BIGGEST Yankee and Salt City fan!

I have had this problem too. What I did was if the candle was even in burning put it on my stove top while it is on and the heat from the oven melts the candle when it is all melted I remove it and it is even again.
