Question on buying tickets in advance

We have gone to WDW twice. Both times we got a package (with free dining) and we always got tickets with that. I just kinda always assumed you had to do it that way... but is that wrong? I was looking around, and it looks like you can get tickets elsewhere and just get a package without the tickets. If you do do that, is it a pain to connect the tickets to the magic band? I don't mind getting tickets on moussavers or something... but I don't want a big hassle about getting it all connected.

Does anyone have experience with this?

If you buy tickets elsewhere then you can't get a "package." A package would be room + tickets, or room + tickets + dining. You cannot get just a room + dining package. So if you are interested at all in the dining plan, or getting free dining again, then DO NOT buy tickets from mousesavers or anyone else. If you are sue you will not be getting the dining plan then by all means buy tickets elsewhere and simply link them.

To take advantage of a Free Dining offer you will have to purchase tickets as part of the package.

If you are paying for the dining plan you can book a ticketless package. You can purchase your tickets elsewhere (e.g. Undercover Tourist, AAA) and call to book a ticketless package (room + paid dining plan.) It will follow all the rules of a package (deposit, final payment due date, penalties and change fees). You have to call because it cannot be booked online.

So I get the military discounts....I book a room only and than buy our tickets through the base. I am able to connect both through MDE and its great. It isn't a package unless I were to do a ticketless package of the room and dinning but my husband like to pay OOP when we go.

You can book a package that consists of room + dining. Your reservation gets linked to your MDE account.

Purchase your tickets through a reseller or separately through Disney and link them to MDE. Your FP booking window will open for 30 days and then expand to 60 when you are exactly 60 days from check-in.
