Question on broken ankle

We are headed to WDW on 10/7. On Wednesday DS age 30 broke his ankle. He will have a screw placed on 8/19 6 weeks from when we leave. It sounds like the break is a pretty clean one and the screw is to help the broken bone adhere.
Wondering if anyone has faced a similar situation. He is in a splint right now and is otherwise in good physical shape. We are not park commandos by any means, we plan 3 to 4 hours of park time in the morning, maybe a few evenings with a hour or two, and much pool time.
Will he be able to make it through walking through the parks? I do know he will need to wear something other than the usual flip flops he favors. I would appreciate any insight from anyone who has experienced a similar thing.thank you!

I think you might want to consult with his surgeon. Six weeks post-surgical, the break might be completely healed, but since he has to have surgery, there will be other issues to consider, including any rehab or physical therapy that he may have to do.

Have an honest discussion with the surgeon, and take his recommendations to heart - and be prepared to rent an ECV or wheelchair.

yes talk with his dr he may need some type of mobility device like an wheel chair or ECV.

Am guessing he will have PT as well? If so, his therapist would be a great resource for this question, especially as he gets closer to the trip. IMHO PT people are really good about knowing how the recovery will go (after they've seen you for a few sessions) and giving feedback about how to handle the injury/trip combo.

Good luck

Thanks to everyone who replied! We will be checking with his doctor, just trying to think ahead since he is in a different state and will be flying by himself and doing Magical Express alone too. We want to mKe sure he has a great time as he has not been in 3 years. We will hope for the best!

Not a doctor, but I've broken an ankle or two at least 5 or 6 times. I'll tell you what you maybe wanna hear.

He'll be fine. I can 'hear' it in your choice of words that no one's really worried about the guy in a long term sort of way. Maybe not even first time he's had a bone set? He'll be fine.

Just give him plenty of latitude to set the pace. Listen for things like maybe he wonders about choosing a table service lunch ... whatever, any excuse to take a load off, do it.

If he needs an ecv or wheelchair he'll let you know.

If he does think an ecv would help but is self conscious of how he'll be seen and you live near michigan, I can loan him the one I'm building. It has a hybrid power plant, is a great performance machine, and has option to use tank treads or a walking leg system and is a great attention getter.
