Can someone share their experience? I am not familiar with Airtran. I see they fly out of Dallas, and we are thinking of driving from Oklahoma to Dallas for our trip to WDW later this year. Airtran currently has the best airfare available.

My question - how does Airtran compare to Southwest, American Airlines, etc? How is the seating - small & cramped (I know, which airlilnes aren't), comparable to the other airlines as far as economy seating. Do they assign seats or is it a free for all like SW?

Thanks in advance!

Many posters here have favorable comments about AirTran. Seating depends on the equipment used on a given flight. Since the airfare is good for your DFW to MCO trip, why not book it?

Hello, I'd like to chime in a bit. We fly out of DFW all the time and about 3 out of 5 times, we fly AirTran. We really like it, and have never had any issues to speak of. They really do have some awesome sales. For this next time, we got the 4 tickets for $94 going and $72 going back. We do purchase about 6 months in advanced (as much as we can), but we also fly at the last minute (so to speak), and have gotten some great deals.

As far as how it compares, I see them as pretty much the same. Except that SouthWest does not assign seats. I mean you do have to pay for seating on AirTran - (If you want it in advanced), but that is not an issue for us because we have younger children and it just makes things easier. You do not have to pay for seating on airTran if you wait until the 24 hour mark to do online check-in. The seats seem to be the same standard size to me, so someone else might be able to chime in.

I say book it, if the price is good :)

The seats are smallish I would say. But the price can't be beat most of the time. We've flown for as cheap as $49! They have changed our flights times by an average of 5 minutes for just about every flight we've booked. When we were delayed leaving Orlando due to weather they were wonderful and gave everyone vouchers to eat something at MCO and $25 vouchers for future travel. We love the free satellite radio too, so be sure to bring your headphones.

Thanks for the responses!! I appreciate the information.

We live near Tulsa, so it is a 4 hour drive to DFW. So, in addition to the airfare, we will wind up staying at a hotel the night before we leave and leaving our car there while we are in WDW. We will probably go ahead and book the AirTran flights - the fares are great and we like the variety of flight times available. We just were unfamiliar with AirTran and we didn't want to book until we knew more about the service, etc. I know most airlines have added seats (ie, American, etc) to get more people on the airplanes, but we didn't want to be more cramped in a smaller seat. And, if the flights from Tulsa or OKC came down in price, we didn't want to regret not waiting and skipping the drive, hotel stay, etc.

DH and I were talking, and we will most likely be booking with AirTran.

Thanks again!

Airtran also has wifi on the plane ;)! I'm flying Airtran this time around since it ended up being cheaper then Southwest.

We did the same thing for our $49 flights. We live near Philly, but the great price was out of D.C. We had a rewards card from Verizon which was good for several hotels. I found one with park n fly right by Dulles. It was a nice country inn and suites that had an indoor pool and free breakfast. We made it part of our trip! When the kids got home from school on Friday afternoon we headed down to DC and they jumped right in the pool. We loaded up on breakfast the following morning and then they drove us over to Dulles for our ultra cheap flights! I would do it again in a heartbeat for such a great price!

Have a great trip! :wizard:

Don't forget to factor in their bag fees when doing a fare comparison!
