Question....is Disneyland Paris worth it?

I think it's great for a 'quick fix' as personally I can't afford Orlando every year and even when I can there are other places I want to go to (hoping to do Orlando alternate years.) I've been for several short breaks and day trips and hopefully will continue to do so. I have been to France many times though (different areas not just Paris) so I guess I can let the French attitudes wash over me a bit more than some people can. Then again we've experienced rude people in Orlando aswell soo.. :confused3 I wouldn't spend over the odds to go there, it's always a value hotel for us and now that I am in uni I can go at times when most of the kids are back in school :thumbsup2 I'd definitely recommend it for a weekend away, just don't go expecting Florida or constantly comparing it. Appreciate DLP for it's own merits and i'm confident you'll enjoy it :goodvibes

Personally I think it's very worth it, but with an annual pass, cheap easyjet flights and off site hotel it can be very reasonable for us (less than £500 for 5 days for a family of 4 in July). It is not America, but I find it has a unique charm which WDW does not have due to its size and different locations for everything. DLP is so manageable, a lot of the rides are far superior to the WDW versions, and Disneyland Park is so much prettier and well laid out than the Magic Kingdom. I have never encountered a rude CM, and apart from some bizarre queuing habits, we have never encountered any problems other than the smoking, which does get a bit tiresome. I visit WDW as part of the whole American experience, but I visit DLP for Disney!

No, it isn't the same as Florida, but it can still be a great Disney holiday - I love both places. And, as Totally Angelic says, it doesn't have to be that pricey - there are ways to have a reasonably priced trip to DLP. :)

If you want to visit an European theme park, then I would suggest DLP above others. I think if you feel you going to compare it with WDW, then I'm sure you'll find yourself doing the same wherever you go. I love this thread about Europe Park in Germany and, with apologies to any EP fans, while it sounds like a fun place, there is no doubt that DLP is superior!!

DLRP is definitely worth visiting. In many areas it is as good if not better then WDW.The Disneyland Park is physically larger then the one in WDW , in my opinion the castle is prettier , especially beautiful at night. It has fantastic theming just like Florida & many attractions I actually prefer at Paris ..... I think Phantom Manor's theme is superior to Haunted Mansion , they are both very good but the storyline in Phantom Manor is impossible to beat , Pirates is great fun , Big Thunder Mountain seems more thrilling & we also have Indiana Jones & Space Mountain which are great.Walt Disney Studios is not as good as the MGM version but its a developing park that is getting better all the time.Rock n Roller Coaster is superb while Cinemagique is a special gem.Disney Village is a smaller version of Downtown Disney with many of the same eateries while the Hotels are excellent. My favourite is Newport Bay Club but I wish some day I could stay in Disneyland Hotel.

Ive been to WDW twice , Paris 6 times & 1 visit to the original Disneyland in Anaheim ..... they are all very good , they are all Disney , they are all magical & they should be all experienced. There have been positives & 1 or 2 minor negatives from all trips but the positives certainly outweigh the negatives & Ive enjoyed all my visits to Disney. For me WDW is the most complete destination because it has Epcot & Animal Kingdom aswell but DLRP & DLR are fantastic destinations that need to be experienced.Go judge for yourself & be ready for some serious fun.

Sorry to be negative - but honest. if you have been to Florida, you will be dissapointed. It doesnt have the same magic. I also found french peOple to be rude, pushy and smoke like chimneys everywhere - and I went at a quiet time of year. There are some nice touches - the dragon under the castle, the hotel on the park. Not all CMs were rude there were some really friendly ones. Rock n Roller coaster seemed faster but had less theming inside as did most rides, than at WDW. Haunted mansion was good, but again slighlty less theming. BTMR and pirates were good. Didnt like the food at all. We stayed at My travel explorers hotel which was excellent for kids, but foodwise - yuk. There were flies all over the food. It is expensive - we spent over a thousand quid which could have got us cheap flights to Florida for a fornight!

I think this is very unfair you are taking a not onsite hotel and condemming the whole resort for it. We have had some wonderful meals onsite and one of the things we look forward to is eating in the parks and the Disney Village.
You just need to look at the photos on a couple of the present threads to see how good the food it.
We were asked about a short break not a fortnights holiday

I think it is a great place to spend a few days and the only place that comes near it is Port Aventura in Salou near Barcelona. The only reason we would go there rather than disney is that my two children are teenagers and like more thrill rides

It's the only disney park I've ever been to and I really liked it. It's very magical, and the hotels are all great and just a 10 minutes walk to the main park from the santa fe hotel, which is the cheaper and farthest one. The Disney Studios is very little, but good, even though I'd wait for the toontown area and the TOT to be opened before going again.
About the french people... well, they're like that :confused3
I found nastier french kids late at night at the Village than at the parks. It was the first time in my life I saw a metal detector security system in such an entertainment area. And the guards found material each night to stop some kids from stepping in.

Let me recommend Madrid :) We have the Warner Bros. Park, the Parque de Atracciones, and one of the nicest capitals in Europe!
Port Aventura is also a good park, but more focused on family rides and shows than thrill rides, and really really far from Barcelona (it's actually in a different province called Tarragona).

I had forgotten about Warner Bros. park we had a great time there as well.

We went to Warner Brothers in Germany a few years ago and although a good time was had by all, I did't feel it was anywhere near as magical as Disney.
In line with other posts about rudeness,I have to say we did come across more rude people there then at DLRP but I think it is unfair to generalise that rude people are only in Europe.
Unfortunately, rude people exist around the globe and different cultures have different ideas. :confused3

IMO, the answer to your question is most definately YES :cheer2:

I agree and you only have to read some of our other forums to see they visit WDW and DL too.

I was worried that DLRP would come a poor second to WDW. I can assure you it doesn't. Just go with an open mind and you will discover all the magic of Disney with an European flavour.

Wow, talk about opening a can of worms!

Thanks to all for your opinions - muchly appreciated!

I think I might pay DLRP a visit, but only as part of a Paris & area trip, so that way we're not specifically going for Disney alone.

A good way to experience all that this particular region of France has to offer. Although as for the rudeness, you will find this even more so in Paris, unless you are prepared to speak at least some French then dont be too surprised if you are ignored occasionally. I have never had a problem with rudeness of CM's at DLRP, quite the opposite in some cases.

As has been said before, treat DLRP as an entirely different experience from WDW etc and dont compare them. Different continents, different cultures!

We live in south west france and have been to disneyland paris 4 times. We have always loved it although we haven't been to WDW yet (going next April) so can make no comparison. We have kids in French school here and the holidays do vary from the English ones so check that out before you book because the French kids can become very rowdy!! I would say it is well worth a visit. Last time we were there in August the crowds weren't too much of an issue and they were in the middle of the construction of Tower of terror so that should be up and running soon.

If you do go then have a great time.

Cath :)

We were planning on visiting Port Aventura for next year's holiday - we are definitely more thrillseekers than anything else, so would you suggest Madrid over tarragona/salou?

Thanks!

Barry

I have been to both PortAventura and Madrid Movie World, and would suggest that while Madrid has the better thrill rides, PortAventura is the better theme park, not to mention having the better climate - Madrid is too hot in summer, and too cold in winter

Oh and DLRP is definitely worth a visit :)

We have just returned from a trip to DLP and to be honest we were rather disappointed with the whole experience. Having been to WDW 5 times we went with an open mind having heard numerous horror stories from friends and family.

The issues for me were, it was expensive, the people were rude and the CM's had a 'couldn't care less' attitude.
I hated the fact that people could smoke anywhere they pleased - even in lines. CM's did not seem to have any desire to help guests at all - and quite often stood back with their arms folded even when chaos ensued during a character appearance. There was another incident that left me totally frustrated with a CM when she just shrugged her shoulders at me. I also thought it seemed to lack any sort of atmosphere or the 'magic' that's at WDW.
And yes I found it expensive - meals in particular were rather pricey.

So.....is it worth it?? Well the kids enjoyed it - and I suppose to an extent I enjoyed some of the rides and the parade, but I'd have to think carefully about going again.

Having just returned from three days in Paris, I am utterly stunned by the "rude" tag that some have attached to the French. Our experience of Parisians was fantastic, all were helpful and helped us even though neither my wife or I spoke their langauge. From the airport, to the hotel, to ordinary people on the street we didn't come across a single rude or non-helpful person. Maybe we were lucky ? Either that or those that work at Eurodisney have attitude. Then again, if I had to work in an area which has a rainfall averge higer than Manchester, I might be inclined to be occassionally rude.
