Question:I tapped a car... and I do mean tapped...

The cop never came back nor has the gal called me. I did tell the cop she did not give me her information.

Advice.......ALWAYS keep a disposable camera in your car for accidents! ALWAYS call the police!!!!! I learned this lesson the hard way a few years ago. A man ran a stop sign. I had the right of way. He had just left a party and since he had been drinking, did not want to call the police. (yeah, i know I should have called the police simply because he said he had been drinking). I told him if he called his insurance company, Geico  and admitted that he ran a stop sign and hit me and that it was 100% his fault, then I would not call the police. I thought I was covering myself by having him do this. Geico spoke to me after he spoke to them (same phone call) and they said no problem, my car would be fixed immediately. They called me the next day and said the man changed his story and said the stop sign was not a legal METAL stop sign, but rather a wooden painted stop sign created by the apartment community he was exiting when he hit me....therefore, since it was not the city metal sign, he did not have to stop and the accident was MY fault  . They said they would not fix my car! To top it off, the man called MY insurance company to file a claim! I ended up paying a deductible to get my car fixed by MY insurance company and they had to take GEICO to court! 6 months later I received word that I WON my case and GEICO had to reimburse my insurance company for cost of repairs, etc. Ahhh.....so a wooden stop sign is legal and so is a white line painted on cement with the word STOP (as if I did not already know that). I will never again fall for the *Oh, PLEEEEEEZE don't call the police :worship: * Save yourself the trouble. As far as the disposable camera......learned that one in Naples. Was advice we were given during orientation. It's to avoid what you are going through right now.

Your premiums may not go up. Mine haven't.

Just depends on the insurance company, how long you have been with them and how often your policy renews. If you have had an at fault accident where the insurance company had to fix the other persons car, then most likely when your policy renews, your premium will go up. My mother had an accident a few years ago but they also had the same insurance company for 25 years with no accidents. Because they had been long time customers, their premium did not go up. A friend lost control of her car one time but no other cars were involved. The insurance company fixed her car and her premiums went up. As long as the insurance company does not have to do any repairs, premium will not go up.

I went to check the mail and parked along side where our mail is... some gal apparently pulled up behind me. I did not see her car. I put the car in reverse, slowly took my foot off the pedal and barely moved but I tapped her car. I was going to back up into the handicapped spot to turn around... neither of us was in a parking spot persay.

There is *no* damange that I can see... No paint missing, no bumps, no chips, no scratches, nothing. She is saying her grill is pushed out (it's a subaru, plastic, when you push it with some force it moves...barely).
I even tried lining my bumper up against where she said I hit her and I can NOT see how I could have hit where she is saying I hit. My car/bumper is too low.

She did not want to call the cops, but wants to call my insurance. I want to make sure I am not paying for something I did not do.

She called her mom how she loved her car... and she hates any damage. It's the third time it's been hit in the last 3 months.

I am extremely upset as I do not want my premiums to go up. I also do not want to pay some amazing amount. I asked if there WAS damage can I pay out of pocket...

Advice?

Go to your local police department and file a report, then turn it over to your insurance company. When she calls, tell her what you have done. My guess is you won't hear from her again. My wife had the same thing happen to her. The person she bumped called with an estimate for damages, when she told him that she had filed a report with the police and notified her insurance company, the person just went away:sunny:
