I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question but the rent/trade board seemed like it was just for making deals so I hope someone here can answer my question. We were renting points for a stay August 12-16 (four nights) ...I know weekends are not best for DVC but the points were a great deal :) Anyway, I was told that there was absolutely no availability for 2 studios at any of the DVC resorts for these dates. My question is... Is that possible? I can't believe that every resort is booked for DVC members during that period. I know I can find these properties on the WDW website with availability so I also want to know... do they ever open these rooms to DVC point users as the date gets closer? I don't want to get stuck with these points if I can't use them. Thanks so much for your help.

Yes, it's possible. DVC does not own all the rooms at a resort and some rooms are only available through CRO, not to DVC members. It's possible there could be a member cancellation but members also have a wait list for rooms so if there are people on the wait list, cancellations would go to them. DVC resorts are usually close to 100% capacity for members.

A non-member really cannot "rent points". You are renting a reservation made by the member. If there are no rooms available, the member cannot make the reservation. You should not be paying the member unless there is a confirmed reservation.

That's a fairly high demand time for DVC. Cash rooms will not come back for points reservations. Other than very short notice, I doubt you'll see much open up until the last few days. Consider a 2 BR instead if it's available.

Thanks for the great info and quick replies!! It looks like I will just do a regular room reservation.

That's a good idea for this trip.

Not only is availability likely to be very limited, but an owner would really be in an awkward position booking a reservation within 30 days of your arrival. They would basically have to be paid in full, with absolutely no cancellation/refund, before they even called MS to try to make a reservation. If they book it and you change your mind, the owner has placed their points in a severely-restricted status. Knowledgeable owners probably won't even attempt that.

I think that we are going to go with either the Swan or the Dolphin as they seem to have the best prices for our dates.

does anyone know if a DVC member makes a change to a reservation from points you "rented" from them, if a new reservation number is generated? I rented points from a dvc member three months ago. when I checked the reservation on the DVC site on Saturday, my reservation was there. I emailed the dvc memebr this morning asking her to add the dining plan to our 2011 reservation,. She emailed me back that she added it tyo our reservation. Now when I check the reservation, it says it has been canceled. I emailed the member adn I am waiting to hear back from her. I am no where near in panic mode becuase I do not know how all this works. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

No, the reservation would not change to add ME or DDP. I would certainly want the member to verify the reservation again. It's probably a system glitch, but I am concerned that the reservation now shows as canceled.

Good luck!

she emailed me back.. Its all good. the CM she spoke to today screwed up the original reservation. I got a new number and its all legite now. Thanks for the reply.
