We are trying to surprise My daughter and family they are station in RAF Lakenheath what will be the best transportation from the airport to there will it be the train if so what train stop will it be. I tried to look at the website and could not figure it out. I probably will have more questions since it will be our first time in London and we will probably go to disneyland Paris finger crossed.. We are going to be there for 3 weeks

i don't know the answer to your question (i'm sure someone on this board does), but just wanted to welcome you!!

how exciting to be traveling to see your daughter!!

(are you sure they'll be there then?)

Hi and welcome to the UK Dis Boards.

One option with the least amount of changes could be using National Express, a bus service from Heathrow to Mildenhall.

At Heathrow Airport Central Bus Station, Stand 1, take National Express Airport Coach 727 towards University of East Anglia, Norfolk Road.

Passengers should pre-book tickets to travel on this service and get off at Mildenhall, Bus Station, Stand A (on Gordon Road) journey time approx. 2 hours 35 minutes.

Then take a local 10 minute taxi ride to RAF Lakenheath.

Bus times in the morning are 08.15 and 10.15 and 12.15.

From: HEATHROW AIRPORT LONDON (for T1 and T3)
To: Mildenhall

Also, if not already done so it also might be best to also post this question on the US Boards as I'm sure there will be quite a few Americans who have already experienced this trip.

Good luck with the surprise trip planning and keep posting any questions.

Also, if you're aged over 60 and are going to use the National Express coach (bus) service for this and other travel in the UK you might want to look at buying a Senior Coach Card.

It cost £10 for the year and saves a 1/3 off coach travel, all year round.

So the £33.30 single one way fare from Heathrow to Mildenhall would cost £22.20.

For more details and to purchase your Coachcard click here www.nationalexpress.com/coach/offers/senior-coachcards.aspx

As you are going to be tired after your flight, what about contacting a UK based airport chauffer service. They will meet you at the airport and take you straight there.
I can't imagine spending 2 1/2 hours on a bus/coach after a flight from the US.
That's just my opinion though. :)

I hope you manage to sort something out.
There's always a way.
Good luck. :thumbsup2

i agree with this..

everyone always tells me to take the train from heathrow, but i always use a car service...
i can't be bothered with trying to navigate public transportation after a long flight.

if you go onto the heathrow website, there are recommended taxi and car service companies listed there (with links)..

Hi and Welcome,
I just wanted to ask does your daughter live inside the wire? or outside In other words is their house on the actual camp? or are they housed nr to the camp but not actually in it?

My hubby is in the RAF and we live inside the camp I just had my Dad over for a few wks with my little sister he is American we had to give notice of 48hours and also he was only allowed to stay 2 wks,If i wanted extra time we haveto go through the appropriate channels to do this but it would have to be done before you arrived......
Any visitors that i have stay are only allowed 2 wks,So i just wanted to let you know this since you said that you would be surprising them :)
If you have any more questions then feel free to ask anything i can help with Forces wise "I.e information you may need without ruining the surprise" then Id be happy to find it out for you my end!

Cindy.
