Since this is a community forum, I'm assuming OT is OK - I'm sure folks here have the info I'm seeking.

I've used VA in the past from Newark to London, but it's been 10 years now. I've noticed some more negative reviews recently. I'm curious - how's the airline these days?

My route will be Newark to Heathrow to South Africa. I've decided to go through London in order to break the flight into 2 reasonable segments instead of one long segment with 2 plane changes at either end.

I'll be in economy - no way around that, the Premium was very tempting (but not for $1000 more).

Does VA sell day passes to their Heathrow Club House? Anyone use Yotel at Heathrow for a few hours. Since both flights are night flights, it looks like a good place to hang for awhile and get a shower.

Can't really answer as I haven't travelled on either route, only from London/Manchester to MCO, but I do know that the Heathrow planes are said to be better then the Gatwick/Manchester fleet.

There is a specific Virgin fan site on the web called V Flyer - many flight crew use this plus a large number of frequent flyers. You could maybe find that site and have a look as I am sure they will be able to answer your questions. (Mods - hope this is ok).

I have only flown the MCO route from Manchester with Virgin and have always found them to be fine.

Thanks for the v-flyer link - that's been very helpful.

I think I'd be happy on the back of a camel going to WDW - it's the going home part that the service better be stellar!!

Actually, it sounds like VS is still near the top of its game, given economic & security realities of early 21st century air travel.

Now - off to figure out how to cope with that 6 kilo carry-on limit thing. Camera lenses and computer get there very quickly!!
