Question for TRAVEL AGENTS...

I am thinking of becoming one! Thinking, anyways... So I have some questions...

1. What are the benefits like? How much travelling do you HAVE to do vs. how much you GET to do?

2. Is it hard to find a job? Are they basically commission only?

3. How do you get to be a Disney Specialist?

Any thing else you can tell me about the profession would be great! Thanks!

I have a BA in Math, so I'm not sure about the degree I would need.

I've been in the business for 13 years. I'm thinking of getting out, so I hope you can get other opinions, instead of just mine.

The benefits are so-so. They aren't like they used to be. Disney still offers discounts, which is the best deal, as far as I'm concerend, and there are deals out there to be had, but not like when I first started in this biz. Typically, you don't really HAVE to travel if you don't want to. Usually you go on atleast 1 "educational" trip per year. (That's what our agency does anyway.) Then, it's up to you for vacations.

It may be hardER to find a job now, with the economy and the war and the whole "internet vs. travel agent", but it shouldn't be impossible. There are jobs out there. I work on an hourly rate. Most "inside" agents do. Most "outside, or out of their home" agents earn commission only.

You can sign up for the Disney Specialist Program through your agency and Disney. There is a toll free number to call to sign up.

You don't really need a degree. I went to a Technical School and that was plenty. You just need the basics for schooling. The real learning is only done "hands on!" Maybe you could intern or start part time?
