question for those with swimming pools

The two houses that I grew up in both had in-ground pools. There was a pool in the backyard from the day I came home from the hospital. My parents had a 4' gate built around our pools until I was about 6 or 7 years old.

We just had an above ground pool installed this spring. My daughter is 8 ~ we love it and wish we'd done it sooner!

It has been so warm here that we haven't needed the solar cover at all and have been swimming about 3-4 days every week.

What kind of pool is it? When you say it's the right size, why is that? DH & I have been toying with the idea of a fiberglass pool, and think we should go big, but they are expensive...wondering if you regret not going larger? How deep is it?

Just be really careful that you get LOTS and LOTS of referrals for whoever is going to install it if you get a fiberglass pool. My parents have one and it has a small crack - and the sides bulge in a little due to poor installation. (This happened I want to say a year or two after they had it put in) A friend of mine just had one put in last year and it has a big crack in the bottom (enough you see sand coming in) and the bottom is bulging up. My parents and friend both did a lot of research and felt comfortable with who they bought the pool from but the installation left a lot to be desired in the end.

If it made sense for us to have one at this house, we would have put one in 5 years ago when we bought the house. Summers in the south are brutal without a pool!
