Bear with me please. :lmao:
I'm wondering your personal experiences with this.
How do you decide you want to rent your points, and not bank them?
For example: If one wanted to go on a disney cruise, they can rent their points, then pay cash for the cruise.
I guess I'm just curious how this would all work out.'
We just joined DVC back in December. :confused3
Thnaks!!

We'ver never rented our points out, if we have any left, we bank them. We like to take my family or frineds every other year or so, so banking them makes it possible for us to get the bigger accomodations.

We did take a cruise last September, and paid cash for it, but we also went to WDW the previous January and the January after.

You just joined last December so you will soon learn that you never have enough points, let alone having too many so you have to rent them out!

That's the way that I was thinking, just wanted to get some feedback. Thanks!! :thumbsup2

I have rented points out on several occasions and the following as some of the reasons we did it. We have been members since 1997.

1. Needed the money to help with MFs one year
2. Used the money to pay for airfare to CA the year of the 50th birthday celebration at DL - the rest of the points were used at the DLH.
3. Used the money for a non Disney cruise - shore excursions
4. Had some family cancel on a family trip and wouldn't have been able to use the points before the end of the UY since they had been borrowed so rented them out and applied the money towards APs.

Am currently considering doing it again this year as some of the family can't make the Christmas week trip again and the money from that villa would pay for APs again. Then again these points won't be distressed so maybe we will just use them next year instead.

As we have 520 points a year to use it is not as big a decision about banking them when someone cancels on us due to school obligations, lost job etc. and having the extra cash towards MFs or APs can be a big help now that we are both retired.
I have been very fortunate in the rentals I have done and have not had the difficulties that some report so I may change my mind if I should decide to rent again and do run into problems.
