I just purchased a very cute shirt today for my DD7 to take to Disney. It has a ton of characters on it (princesses and mickey, dwarfs, etc,) I got it at the Disney store and want the characters to sign it. I know she wont be able to wear it so we will carry it, but what type of pen have you used to have the characters sign your shirts? I feel like a sharpie will bleed when they sign with it, and I want something that wont wash out when I wash the shirt. Thanks for the help with this. :wave2:

Sharpies actually are the best thing you can use. Make sure they have a pointed tip but are still the fat ones and be sure you pull the shirt tight. Don't pull it across a book or whatever but instead have yourself and one other person tug it so that it is very tight and the sharpie won't bleed all over. It's when the shirts are loose or not stretched out enough that the markers tend to smear.

i dont think they will sign anything but autograph book...i saw it happen at chef mickeys one night,

I read that they will sign items other than autograph books, but if it is a clothing item, they won't sign it if you are wearing it. I know someone whose son had his Goofy hat signed by Goofy.

I have been thinking about this...when not sleeping at night....

I thought...why not take a clip board...stretch the shirt over that...then use binder clips on all 4 corners to hold it tight? That way you can move the shirt between characters so you can get the signature just where you want it...ie...wherever that is..put it in the middle of the clipboard.

Yes..I need a life! Plus I would take different colored sharpie's...pink and lavender for princesses....dark purple for villains....red for Mickey and Minnie....orange for Tigger....yeah...I need a life :)

I think the clipboard is a great idea!!!!

I, too, have thought of having different colored sharpies for the different characters, but heard it is better (and easier to read) when they are in black.

I'm thinking about having them sign a plain color bandana. Then my daughter can never outgrow it.

Oh....now I get a great idea...how about a nice white man's hankie?

Then...when you come home....you could embroider the sigs....using a very close zig zag stitch....then make a pillow?

I need a life and I need my 8 hour shift to be up and GO HOME!

Still thinking shirt...but I am 43 and won't outgrow it too soon!

I used a Emborariary hoop on my t shirt. I used fat black sharpie for signing and you could go over sigs with fabric paint once you got home if you wanted.

Do you have to put the embroidery hoop on something solid or is pulled tight enough to sign?

We did this in Jan and May and it worked fine by itself. The only thing is Buzz and Woody stamp their signatures. Their handler followed us afer we got through and told us to be sure and go over their signatures with the sharpie or they would wash out. Also be sure to hand it to the character right side up. We got Belle's autograph upside down. My GD wears hers, but I had mine framed. Depending on what you want to do with it, place the embroidery hoop where you need it on the shirt. My GD's we had them sign all over but mine we had them clustered very closely together on the upper front and sleeves, so they would show when framed.

Thanks for all the replies. Guess I will go with the sharpie pen. Has anyone had the signatures wash out, or do they stay when washed and dryed? Thanks again

Another thought...my dd had a plain white bucket hat that she wore for our trip, but she could take it off and have the characters sign it. She saved it for her most favorite characters though. She keeps it on display in her bedroom.

You could always try a Laundry Marker. They are a lot like sharpies but I know they are made for use on clothes and things. I used to have to use things like this when i went to camp ;) I just looked them up on google and the description for it says:

" Marks permanently on cloth without bleeding or feathering. Porous-Tip laundry marking pen is permanent on cloth. One stroke deposits ink on white and light-colored fabrics."

Maybe that would work too :)

Have a great trip!

I used a laundry marker and an embroidery hoop in last winter. This worked very well, and got us some extra attention from the characters. Goofy thought it looked like a bridal veil, so he proposed to me, placed it on my head, and we had a little wedding!! Great pictures, and even my jaded teens enjoyed this! :lovestruc

We had the star wars characters sign a tee for DNeph in June - I got a plastic embroidery hoop and cut out a circle of foam core to fit the inside circle - then I 'gorilla' glued the foam core inside the smaller circle. It worked great and the characters all commented on how easy it was to sign with something solid underneath the shirt. I tried out a couple of different fabric markers and one worked more smoothly than the others, but I forget which one now.

This trip we did something that we saw another family doing last time - DNeph bought a black hat and got the characters signatures on it with the new silver metalic sharpie - looks cool and he loves to wear it !

This must be the case because when we were there and in line for pictures we had a woman who had like six shirts she was getting signed :rolleyes1 One or two wouldn't of been bad but she just kept pulling out shirts. Cute idea though.

My dd's had t'shirts signed one trip - we just used a black sharpie, no book, no hoop, no clipboard, just the shirt and it came out fine. The t'shirts are about 2 years old now and the shirt itself is starting to fade but the sharpie signatures are as good as new.

The best thing we have had signed so far was a light colored baseball hat bought at WDW the first day. It was easy to carry and kept the sun off my dd's light colored hair and faces. All I had to carry was the sharpie and a camera! They only wear the t'shirt occasionally, my 10 yo not so much anymore:( but they both still wear the baseball hats quite often.

Sounds like a cute idea, enjoy character hunting!

I bought a sun visor at EPCOT last year and had my favorite characters sign it. DD had a pillowcase that she put on a clipboard and had them sign. She put a pillow in it and displays it on her bed, (on the days she makes her bed). We used the markers specially made for fabric. :flower: Debby
