Mods, sorry if this is in the wrong place.

What are some of your favorite spots. Unfortunately the last 2 trips to the world we were less than impress with the food at some of our favorite wdw restuarants. We never had a "Bad" meal, we just felt it was ok and no way lived up to what they charged. So this year we are renting a car and venturing outside. :scared1:

Anybody eat off site and have some favorites?

Timpano's Italian Chop House has excellent Italian food and melt in your mouth steaks and seafood! They have a web-site! Great food www.timpanochophouse.net. We go there every Orlando visit, it's good for couples, they have a martini bar and cigar area but my 12 son loves it too!

P.S. If you look at their prices, they are reasonable and they have better food than Disney!

well, I don't know what you're exactly looking for, but anything in the Dr. Phillips area is good, my fav being Seasons 52

but then again, I always LOVE Orlando Ale House, but its nothing flashy :)

In 2005 we ate a few meals off site - my one piece of advice is to avoid the high traffic tourist chains.

If you want to eat at a chain restaurant (we tried Western Sizzler) go to the ones that are a little more on the outskirts with fewer motels around. Their quality seems to be better but you still have the same lower price.

We ate breakfast at Ponderosa which was surrounded by off site motels (instead of driving to the one farther down the road in a less populated area) and it was not very good (certainly not up the same quality as the Ponderosa breakfast buffet in non tourist areas).

Yes it was cheap (I think $1.99 or $2.99 per person) but most of the food was pretty inedible.

This is part of the Darden restaurant family, so that may be a turn-off - but we like Bahama Breeze. We've eaten at the Disney area one and one in Memphis and Phoenix, and its very good and very reasonable.

We've also enjoyed Vito's Chop House for Italian, and Charley's Steak House, if you want to wander afield of the chain link spots.

We love cafe Tu Tu Tango (they have a web site). its tapes style

Our off site favorite is no longer there... We used to looove King Henry's Feast.

WE LOVE Giovanni's ---one is near DTD & another one on the main road. Their specialty is CHICAGO style pizza & we get a large (eat one slice which is HUGE) & take the rest back to the room as we are DVC so we can eat on it for a couple of days.....They have plenty other ITaliain choices as well.

Charley's steakhouse. They have a website. A few years back they were listed as 1 of the top 10 steakhouses in the U.S by some publication. I don't know if they still are. It is a bit pricey, but in our opinion worth it.

I just checked. It was Tom Horan's list and for 2009 Charley's is listed as the No. 1 steakhouse in the entire United States. It is also on Wine Spectator's list for outstanding restaurant wine lists. It is also No. 5 on the Prime Time Top 10 USDA Steakhouse list. It has won some other awards too. Gee, I'm starting to sound like a commercial!

We like Unos. They have the best deep dish pizza around and for those who don't like pizza, they now have steaks and other things.
