Question for those that switch Resorts

We are staying at a Value resort for the first night to save points. We then switch to SSR. When you do this, do you usually check out, request luggage transfer and head to a park (with a check in later). Or do you go right to your new resort and check in.

Any advantage/ disadvantage to room selection one way or another?

I normally head over the DVC resort to check-in. I just like to do that early, before it gets really crowded in the afternoons. Then we head to a park or DtD. But we also usully have a car, so we don't need to ride the bus from resort to park to resort to check-in, then another bus back to the park.

We usually go over to the resort and check in and have breakfast there before heading to the parks.

Usually we will go to the resort to check in. Sometimes a room is ready. We've been lucky and have gotten a great 1 bedroom at OKW at 9:30AM one Sunday.

We transfer our luggage to SSR, and then go to the park. We get back to the DVC in time to check in, and clean up for dinner.

When switching from Pop to BCV in April Im taking bus to EpCot, going in, getting on the big rides, grabbing fastpasses, then going to check into BCV. I'll then return to EpCot for AR lunch and stay in the park till the room is ready.

When switching from Riverside to VWL in Aug we're taking bus to MK, getting on the big rides, grabbing fastpasses, then going to check into VWL. We'll then return to MK for AR lunch and stay in the park till the room is ready.

I usually set the transfer of luggage up with the resort and then go to the parks for the day. When I get to the DVC resort I'll check into my room and then either grab my luggage from the bell desk, or have it delivered up. In the past I have transferred to BWV so I just plan my park day at Epcot and then walk over to the resort when it's time for a break, or I'm done for the day.

I set up the bag transfer and go to the parks. Then get my bags and check-in (after 3PM since the transferred bags may arrive up to that time).

When I transferred from SSR to VWL, I transferred the bags after breakfast, went to the park and checked in to the Villas around 3:30. Am I dreaming this up if I say that my luggage was already transferred to my room? or did I have to call down to get it? I really think it was in my room already. As with most things - Disney makes this real easy.

Have not done it in a while, but we would have bell services pick up the luggage in our room and tell them what resort we wanted it transferred to. It would usually arrive between 3:00 and 5:00 pm. We tipped bell services at each end.

After bell services picks up your luggage you are free to enjoy your day unless you need to check-out in person.

I don't know if a value resort has bell services. you may need to get your luggage to the bell stand on your own.

If we drive, its not too big of a deal... We keep a day bag out with snacks, swimsuits, and etc... We then have Disney transfer our luggage, and we drive over to the new resort to check in and park the car..

After that we will either swim for a bit or go to DTD...

Completely forgot about the dining plan. I guess we will have to check in before going to the parks so we can use it.

The last 2 trips we have switched resorts and taken a cab from one resort to another. We just check in early, give our bags to bell services and go to the park for the day.

If you have your heart set on a specific building/room/view and are not doing a robo-disney vacation you should check-in first thing in the morning.

We always check into our new resort asap. The benefits are no lines & the best room selection- although you may have to wait to get into the room. We always just send one person from our group over as early as we can get them up to check-in for us, then the rest of us leisurely get ready & meat him/her at the park we are going to that day. Stinks for that lucky person, but not for me. :rotfl:
