I see great reviews for Teppan Edo. I haven't made reservations here because we have 4 of these hibachi Japanese restaurants within 15 minutes of our home. Is the food superior to what you get a home, do you not have this dining experience at home, or do you just really like that style of food?

Since you can't read "tone" on a message board, I am not trying to be nasty. I am genuinely interested in hearing why people like it so much. We enjoy going to our local Japanese restaurant every few months and having the chefs cook at our table. Maybe I am cheating myself by not trying Teppan Edo. :confused3

It is always been a positive experience for us, but the food is no different than what you get at restaurants near your home. It has a better atmosphere and is spotlessly clean compared to local restaurants.

Same here. Teppan Edo is no different than our local place. We enjoy the atomosphere and the food so that is why we go. The service at Teppan Edo is also wonderful.

I don't know - I've never eaten at a Japanese restaurant at home. We ate at Teppan Edo last summer for lunch (we were on DDxP for 7 days) and it was our absolute favorite restaurant.

Plus, like most of the Epcot eateries, the staff is from the home country, so we enjoyed talking to them. And if you have kids, they add some Disney touches like building the three MK mountains out of onion slices.

We love Japanese Steak House restaurants and have several in our area that we go to often. I think the food at Teppan Edo is fine so I'm not bashing it but we choose not to go there.
You do not get the soup, salad or shrimp appetizer with your meal but they can be ordered ala carte. If you are the DDP those items are not included.
Since fried rice isn't traditional Japanese the only option is white rice. I actually prefer white rice but some may not.

That's just my $.02:goodvibes

We love Teppan Edo. In our personal experience, I think the food taste more fresh. And the restaurant as someone else said, was very clean. And everyone there was super nice. Hope you enjoy.

I think our local option is better honestly. Although there was nothing wrong with Teppan Edo and sometimes we do go there still. My kids prefer the fried rice though. It's a fun experience but nothing out of the ordinary compared to your local one at home.

I haven't been to Teppan Edo in eons. It's basically the same thing as all of the others, though the room is a lot more upscale than is "typical" for a hibachi grill place.

My take on Epcot generally: do what you can't easily do at home.

I agree with other PP. The show and food is about the same as local hibachi place. However, local places give you miso soup and salad along with the meal. Also, my husband who went to college there could only laugh about Teppan Edo at Disney. Maybe it was just our chef last time but he cooked vegetables together with meats. Usually, veges are the last to be cooked. So it was a little weird but we still go there. Actually we made another adr for Sept. since DS loves it.

We had never been to a hibachi style restaurant, so the whole experience was a great one for us. Since then we have tried local hibachi near home and it just doesn't seem as good. I think it's missing that Disney magic! :)

Just my opinion...but if you have hibachi at home, skip Teppan Edo. My bff absolutely loves it (she says it's more for the onion Space Mountain than for the food). I try to avoid it like the plague. It's the only hibachi place I've ever been to where I left hungry. I hate the white rice, and for what you get, the price is absolutely ridiculous. The hibachi I can get at home is a million times better. That being said, the food isn't bad, and I think the experience is fun if you can't get hibachi at home.

We have Hibachi here in Baton Rouge, LA.... but we really don't go often...

We don't have a Beni Hana... and I haven't personally found the entertainment to be any better locally. Although I do tentatively agree with folks who enjoy getting the Miso soup, Fried Rice... etc.

But Teppan Edo has become a family tradition for us... primarily because my DSnow19 ... who has been to WDW 10 times or so... LOVES everything asian.

We have really enjoyed taking some time with our lunch there... cooling off.. enjoying the show... and always have Plenty to eat....

The show doesn't include some family fav's like the large fire... but it is good .......And does include some "Mickey" inspiration...

I really can't imagine a visit to Epcot without a lunch at Teppan Edo...

Our trip will be our first for WDW, and we are definitely going to Teppan Edo. Back home, there are LOTS of these kinds of restaurants. However, I'm thinking it may be one of the few places where we can get white rice, which is a staple for almost every meal in Hawaii. My 10 y/o DD LOVES white rice, and I don't think she'll be able to get through our entire trip without having it at least once ~ LOL! I'm also thinking that going to Teppan Edo will be different, since the atmosphere should be Disney oriented. We are really looking forward to our experience there. I hope we are not disappointed!

We enjoy Teppan Edo, it is a must do on most trips. It is WAY better thant he Teppan style restaurants here. The food is delicious, the restaurant is beautiful, and the servers are authentic and great. As a previous poster said, it is spotlessly clean and I can NOT say that about our restuarant near here.
Enjoy

The food is very bland. We did not love it. Also because of how they divide the portions it is variable, we got very little of the noodle dish

We tried Teppan Edo mainly for the entertainment that Japanese chefs are known for. Our chef stacked a few rings of onion into a volcano shape, and when the steam rose from the top, looked at my son and said "ooh", and that was the show.

We have never been to Teppan Edo and have no plans to go. We have an absolutely amazing Japanese hibachi restaurant nearby. It is not part of a chain but privately owned. It is always packed. The show put on by the chef is always really good, there is tons of food and it is so yummy! When I first looked into Teppan Edo what I could see was a more limited menu, about half the food, double the cost, and typical Disney food & show inconsistencies.

Our closest hibachi place is 2 hours away, but we go when we're visiting my boyfriend's parents. The food at Teppan Edo is comparable to our place, but the show and atmosphere is better.

Just a FYI. If anyone in your party is disabled or elderly, you may have a problem. We had a reservation there in January and the elevator was broken. They were very unconcerned about the problem and no one was working on it. That means that the only access to the restaurant is to climb up the extremely steep stairs on the outside of the building.

We have Japanese Rest around us too, I felt that If I went to Tappen Edo it would be a special "Disney" memory.

Well, the chef, which was supposed to be the best, was just ok...the food was bland, but the three sauces were wonderful.

All in all, if you skip this one, you wont be missing anyting....
