Hi! As I have posted before we are planning on tent camping at the Fort in January 2012. We just returned home from one of our local campgrounds (Cherrystone, VA) this weekend for a Halloween weekend and had a blast. The temps were perfect fall weather during the days and dipped down to the mid-forties a couple of nights...we solved the problem of "freezing" air mattresses by placing thin fleece blankets between the mattress and the sheets, with warm covers on top. You think this will do the trick in FL in January? We were all so cozy that we didn't even run the heater except for a little bit in the morning to take the chill off. I know I have a year + to plan this but I would really like to avoid buying heated mattress pads if I can...those things are dang expensive!! Although if my DH has anything to do with it...we may have a pop-up by then!! :rolleyes1

It's very hard to guess on the weather for January. We have had temps as nice as 60's at night, to 20's for a couple of weeks this past January. That was quite unusual for us though, so blankets and a small heater should be just fine (especially if your in a pop-up;))

We've been there the last two years in Jan-early Feb and its been a bit chilly, but we made do with a lil heater. Probably about the same as you experienced recently... Have fun. Even with the Jan weather it is still fun at Disney!!!:cool1:

The wife and I go down every winter to the fort next year (2011) we will be there from the last week in Jan. to early March and it can get down right cold!! We have a cub 16 hybred with heat and all the comforts of home but the bunk ends still are chilly so we did buy a mattress heat pad and what a diferance it has made we got it a wally world not cheap but it beets being cold in bed! just my two cents and good luck on the hunt for a popup you will have a great time in it. K:goodvibes

I live in South Florida and in Jan/Feb is COLD! Last winter was the coldest in like 20 years. It got down into the 30s and snow flurries fell in tampa and Daytona. Florida gets chilly. I would say pack electirc blankets a space heater and heavy socks. We laugh on the busses looking at people who are in shorts and tshirts freezing. pack gloves and coats!
Because its so cold we're staying in a cabin. I cant risk my kids getting sick from sleeping in a tent.

I've lived in Florida since 1973. January weather can be a "crap shoot". Some years it's been very cold (down in the teens) and others the nightly low can be in the 70's. Your best bet is to wait until about 2 weeks before your trip and view the projected weather report to plan accordingly.

Just a point of interest, in 1980 we camped in a pop-up at Ft Wilderness in January. The low's were in the teens and upon waking I found a thin layer of ice/frost on the outside of the pop-up. We had an electric space heater, sleeping bags, and blankets. We were fine.

Other years, we've had to run the A/C in January. So like I said - it's a crap shoot.

Small world... we live in the same town! We are also contemplating tent camping in January!! We can only travel in january due to me being in school full time and our girls love to camp... We were just worried about the weather as well. Have you camped at FW before?
