Question for the ladies-ultrasound question

I've had a trans-v ultrasound before and they told me the same thing. What I did was urinated exactly 2 hr prior and then didn't drink a thing until I got in my car with a huge bottle of water. Drank it as I was driving to the imaging center so I'd have it all in my system by the time I got there which meant I had to hold it in for less time.

Add me to the list that has to drink for the external, empty and then have the internal one.

My tip: go with what works for you. Even before kids, I could never drink that much water and hold it. I go to the bathroom an hour before my appointment time and then I chug 16 oz of water. It has never, ever failed me and I am always told my bladder is extremely full. I have actually had a couple occasions where the tech has made me empty a little out because I was too full. That is always fun........pee for three seconds and stop.

I've had a ton of ultrasounds (non pregnancy so far) and I've always had to drink 20-40 ounces of water before hand, they've always told me to finished drinking the water one hour before the test.

If your script says "Pelvic Ultrasound - Trans-V (or TV) PRN" then the trans-v part is only if needed.

I get to go have another ultrasound on monday

Prior to my trans-v ultrasound, I drank 32 zo. water. And then waited....and waited...and waited some more for my scheduled appointment. After an hour of waiting, I just couldn't hold it anymore, and used the bathroom.

Despite my empty bladder, the technician was able to do the ultrasound.

I had one with the water at one place, then a followup somewhere else (3 followups, actually) and they did not want the bladder full, and, in fact, told me to empty it before I came out and got on the table.

I asked the technician and she said they never have people drink the water at this place -- there's absolutely no need for it.

ITA. I was told to drink 32 ounces 1 hour before my appointment. I only drank 20 ounces because I know I must have a small bladder and could never hold it for that long. It's a 45 minute drive, and five minutes from the dr's I had to have my husband pull over because I was afraid I would wet myself! I drank another 20 ounce bottle 15 minutes before the appt, and was praised for my full bladder. :confused3 For me, one 20 ounce bottle of water 15-30 minutes beforehand is more than enough to give me a full bladder.

I just had an u/s today. I had to drink 16 oz of water an hour before my appt. Mine was renal (kidneys) so maybe that makes a difference. I know when I was pg I had to drink 32 oz and that was horrible to deal with.

I was op..ok had the utlrasound done today. It was both internal and external. Even though said not to go to the bathroom for the two hrs previous I did. I think the last bathroom break I took was one hour previous. I drank a bottle of water, which is about 16 oz and a few sips of a 2nd bottle. I brought the 2nd bottle with me to hospital..
I was ok at first, but if she would of called me 5 minutes later I would of probably been in pain;)
She didnt say anything about that I didnt drink enough. It said I was suppose to drink 32 oz, I drank a little more then half..She did outside first, told me to use restroom and then did inside..

Now I am praying there is nothing seriously wrong with me. She did say it takes a few days for results to get back to dr.

I have had 4 ob ultrasounds and I did have to drink water. Only once did I drink the 32 oz and my bladder was so huge they couldn't see anything else so I had to get rid of some of it. After that I only drank 8-16 oz of water and it was fine for the us.
I have had a trans vag us for pelvic pain before and I did not have to drink any water for it. I had an ovarian cyst. Luckily many times they go away on their own and mine did. I haven't had anymore since then.
