I am starting to sell stuff on Ebay to help pay for our Disney trip. My question is what are all of you selling that is making you so much money? I currently have up some of my maternity clothes but I does not seem to be an interesting item to people. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I wish I knew the answer to your question, but I don't. I have tried to sell on ebay and lost more money than I care to think about. I have tried to sell my dd's clothes and didn't sell a single item. I don't dress my kids in real name brand stuff like GYMBO, so that is probably my problem. I don't know. I guess I wasn't meant to sell on ebay and make a profit!!LOL
  I make more money at my garage sales than ebay. So I guess I'll just stick to the hard work of a garage sale.

Best of luck to you.

Good condition name brand clothes, working electronics (like I had a vhs in a bag - this year upgraded to portable DVD - I sold the VHS in a bag on Ebay for $65). Electronic that are slightly broken ( I sold a very good working digital camera with a broken battery door. I was upfront about the camera and showed a very clear picture of the damage. It sold for $45. This year I'm replacing a lot of my VHS movies to DVD so I sold almost all of my Disney collection on VHS (sold for $98 + 15 s/h).

Designer purses are a huge hit on ebay. My grandmother was a nurse to a very rich elderly lady for many decades (yes more elderly than my grandmother) well anyway when the lady died the ladies daughter asked if my grandma knew of someone to help throw out old stuff in the house so it could sell (Daughter lived out of town). The daughter was paying so grandma asked my husband could he and a couple of his friends do this work. Boy did they help. The lady had every designer Gucci bag from the 70's on up. My husband bought home every last one of them. Between my mother and I - we made almost $2,000 in a few weeks. Many I carry - all the original Jackie O bags - they are my favorite!!!!

Go thru your basement and pick out all that "stuff" that you just don't use - you know the stuff that you thought was such a good investment - but never used. Sell it! If your child now - 6 (for example) had a Jr. Leap Pad sell the old and get them a new one. Go thru the eductional toys. Sell the Hooked on Phonics set you never touched.

Or go thru those shoes. Match colors and styles and sell them as a "lot". Sell that dress thats new with tags. You know the one you've been telling yourself your going to get, but never have. If you have business suits, but is now a stay at home mom (good for you), but sell those suits. Sell in season stuff.

Old books, books on tape, books you have two of, autograph pictures, classic games and handheld games, DVD's you don't care too much for. Go thru your moms basement and get that old atari system, see if it works (I sold mine last year with like 26 games for about $80), and the list goes on and on. Haven't you seen the commercials - your junk is a rare and wonderful find on ebay.

What I do is find something, look it up on ebay and see what its selling for. Be realistic - and set prices reasonable, and comparable to other auctions. Set shipping reasonably too. Check with auctions for good shipping prices too. Good luck....

Hope this help:hyper:

Books do very well on E-Bay. If you sell craft books in lots (especially cake decorating), these do well.

One thing that amazed me was used satellite receiver. Somehow over the years we managed to collect four of them. They we stacked up in a closet. I did a search and they were selling anywhere from $50-$75. I sold these very quickly. From what I understand, buyers are actually wanting the access cards, but it is illegal to sell them without the receiver. I also picked one up at a yard sale for $4 and sold it for $65.

My husband is a farrier and always has dozens of used horseshoes in the back of his work pickup. I always have two lots of those going and they always sell. People buy them for crafts. I don't even clean them up or remove nails.

Old ceramics are good to sell. If you go to yard sales, keep your eyes open for these kinds of items. I recently bought an old WWI yearbook for $2 and sold it for $25. I have seen collector drinking glasses (Looney Toons, Disney, etc.) selling for about $5 each.

This week my husband picked up 25 brand new Wrangler rodeo tee shirts for $3 each at the local Co-Op. I have those listed and they are doing well.

Just start by grabbing a few things you have tucked away, do a search, and take it from there. It is a lot of fun once you get started.

I have to agree with much of what has already been posted and BOOKS are an excellent place to start! I've recently been able to pick up huge bulk lots of books at garage sales, estate sales, etc., and have been listing them little by little..

I started out almost a year and a half ago with only books and videos and did very, very well.. Once I got the hang of it, I started selling everything in the house that wasn't nailed down - LOL!

Wow, thanks for the tip! I just got Directv to upgrade us to a Tivo receiver for free :teeth: and the old receiver is just sitting upstairs in our closet. I sell on Ebay all the time, but it never occurred to me that an old receiver would be worth anything. I hope I do as well with it as you have!

To the OP, selling children's clothing on Ebay can be kind of difficult. You just don't get much for it most times. I take my kids stuff to a local consignment store.

However, I've been doing very well selling my own used clothing on Ebay. I've lost 55 pounds and I've been selling off all my too-big clothing which has helped me afford to buy new stuff in smaller sizes. I did very well selling my maternity clothes, but they were plus-sized which is hard to find.

All things sell.. I am convinced there is a market for everything on Ebay.

Personally, my girls clothes don't do that well. My sons old jeans did bring me a decent amount of money (I was suprised, I guess size 8 jeans in decent condition are hard to come by)

I've sold college textbooks, old books, and vintage sports magazines.

Currently we've been selling newer laptops (Gateways and older Macintoshes) and doing well. We have also sold older desktop systems as well. Computer parts do well also.

We've sold old craft supplies, old buttons (like pin buttons, not craft buttons) and toys. I have sold educational toys as well.

I just keep digging and hoping I can find things. I am to the point where if I have a $2 profit I am ecstatic as that will pretty much buy a soda at Disney. I have been bagging up items and sending to Goodwill, but pretty much look up everything before it goes in the bag on ebay.

Tonite as I was digging thru the basement pile of DD's junk and the bathroom closet I discovered the small McDonald's barbie doll items were definitely not worth putting on and the Burt's Bees starter kit and other odd items I had left from my last assortment purchase definitely were & the Disney lithographs are a maybe if I price low enough. So it can really be hit or miss sometimes.

I have 27 items up this week ranging from the rest of the beanie babies that didn't sell in March to new Disney DVD's to NWT girls dresses my DD never wore (doesn't that irritate you!). So its just a 'whatever I find'.

I am a bit more interested in the craft book information. I have a box with 150 craft magazines/pattern books in it. I had listed about 4 lots on eBay a different time but no luck. Thinking maybe I priced too high? I'll have to do a bit more hunting on those. Otherwise.....off to Goodwill......

I sell many things on my ebay account. People seem to like name brand items in the clothing part. They like good electronics and childrens software sells. Games for playstation and gameboy are good sellers. DVD's sell well and CD's sell sometimes depending on the artist or what is the "cool" thing at the time. Children's clothes are best to sell in big lots.

Hoped this helped.:wave2:

Rebbeca,
Thanks for the tip on selling used satellite receivers. We upgraded ours and had an old Dish Network receiver just sitting around so I decided to list it today because eBay is having a $.10 listing sale. It sold in less than one hour for ... DRUMROLL please ... $224.99!!!!! Thanks again .

Hi Tina. That is awesome. How did you sell it in an hour? I had seen some auctions that said they would be doubling soon. Something about a certain access card becoming obsolete and hard to find. I am definitely hitting yard sales this weekend. I NEED MORE SATELLITE RECEIVERS.

Okay....what is a satellite receiver??? We got a dish thing for Christmas (it was from Walmart) we never hooked it up because there was a monthly fee......is that one?

I mainly sell kids clothing and baby stuff and do pretty well on the name brand items. I also make sure I do it seasonal- seems to do better that way. I start in early spring selling summer clothing and start back up in august for the fall and winter items. I try to sell more of it together than separate and for some reason shoes lately have been my biggest sellers. go figure- some people have paid me almost close to what I paid for them on sale brand new! it amazes me! I sold all my big baby items-- strollers, slides etc as pick up only. I made a nice profit. My dh does sell car parts and does quite well with that also.

good luck!

ceecee,
The satellite receiver I sold was one that I got when I had Dish Network service. It's basically cable service that we paid a monthly fee for. We upgraded our service and got a new receiver. Check for your brand on eBay by typing in the name and model number. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Rebbeca,
eBay is having a $.10 sale on fixed price listings today - you list the item for sale only with a "Buy it Now" price. I listed it and it sold in an hour. We are definitely doing the happy dance here! Thanks again. Honestly, we almost threw it away because we thought it was worthless . So glad we didn't!

I know what you mean Tina. I had these receivers in the closet for years. We switched for the Dish Network to Direct TV. We upgraded to TIVOs. I even had a very old one for the large dish that no one has anymore. I didn't realize the .10 listing for for Buy It Now items. If you go looking for the receivers, make sure the cards are with them. The receivers are worthless if not. I did not even know if the ones I sold were still working. I stated that in the auction and it didn't seem to matter.

When we moved into our new house, there was a Dish Network dish laying in the backyard. I sold it on E-Bay for $61!

You just never know what will sell well. My DH put up old Nike Jordan sneakers and they sold for $300!!! We have made alot on receivers, and other electronics. I do really well with kids clothing. Particularly DD's old Gymboree clothes. They wash well so they are in great condition. I never sell anything damaged, or stained. I have made alot of money on the kids clothing, including infant stuff.
