Question for SSR Owners

My 5 & 8 year olds loved SSR. We like to go over to DTD and soak up the atmosphere so it was ideal for this. They enjoyed the playground and loved High Rock Springs.

I think my favourite thing about the resort is the whole "feel" of it. I have never been in such a relaxing place in my whole life. The ambiance, surroundings, landscaping, furnishings and buildings all contribute to this.

I agree with you it is the whole "feel" of it!!!! Just reading what you said makes me smile. Its great. May 8th is not to far off and back again to SSR

I don't know if this helps and I'm not an owner-YET, but a bus driver told us that most resorts are only a 12 minute bus ride. For examples, she could go from the MK to ASM in 12-15 minutes which surprised me because ASM is so far out there. Or at least it seems far when you're tired at the end of the day.

EOS is excellent and easily one of the best value meal choices in all of WDW! DH and I ate there at least 3 times last trip. Everything is made fresh and served hot! A sandwich is $4.95 (2 halves) and you can choose a side salad (romaine mix) for .95. They also serve larger salads, soups,chips etc.
We normally spent less than $14 for 2 sandwiches and sides.

It is very popular and sometimes a nice wait and no seating.

It was great staying at SSR, because we would get our sandwich to go and take it back to the studio.

We tried Fultons on our very first trip to WDW and they are expensive and we were not impressed, but may try it again if we dont have the boys with us.

I went to tour SSR, and thought that it seemed like way too much for one place. The main pool was small, and seemed way too far away from most of the rooms. My children are Disney resort pool connoisseurs - they felt that the pool was small, offered little variety, and the slide was just okay. All of us adults agreed that we did not have a "Disney" feel - it just seemed like it was too commercial with all of the units. We received a mailing to add on 120 points at SSR with a 100 point bonus for the first year. We are sensing that maybe SSR has some greater drawbacks than we seen. We were expecting more luxury in the landscaping and units.

We own at SSR. Location-wise, it is perfect for us. The bus service was quick. We never waited more than 10-15 minutes and the trips to Epcot/MGM took no more than 10 minutes. Magic Kingdom might have been more like 15-20 minutes.

We especially enjoy the location because of its proximity to Downtown Disney, which is a five minute walk away.

Some people might not see DTD location as a plus, but for us it is huge. We do the parks during the day and almost every night we end up at Downtown Disney. When you're exhausted at the end of the evening there, it is really nice not to have to haul back to other resorts with tired children.

If you are not into Downtown Disney, this might not be as big a plus to you, and you might think of the resort as being out of the way. It is farthest from Magic Kingdom. The other parks, it is only about 10 minutes from.
You might also want to consider that in a few short years, your small children will be larger children who will not be able to wait to get over to Downtown Disney, Disney Quest, etc. The restaurants, atmosphere, and view at night are one of our favorite part of our trips--a nightcap every night, so for us, this location is superb.

Additionally, there is nothing about this resort that makes it more spread out than OKW, BWV, or the moderate resorts. You might be doing better at WLV or BCV in terms of walking, but I am not sure. The difference is truly negligible, and people just think that SSR is bigger than it is because of the way it is set up. When you walk from place to place, you aren't walking down halls, you are walking amongst outdoor scenery and landscaping, which, to me, is preferable. But maybe not for some. The walk from Congress Park to the main pool/eatery area is a leisurely 8 minute walk.

You might also think that this is really convenient....

The bus stop outside of Congress Park was literally less than 1 minute from our room. Since all the buildings are close together, I believe it is similar for all. We literally could walk outside our door and if we saw the bus coming would not have to "run for it." I found the transportation to be extremely convenient in this way.

Just curious; as self-described "pool connoisseurs", which resort pools do they think are better - and why?

Does anyone else see the irony in this statement? I love Disney, but it is one big walking commercial. So if SSR felt commercial, then they captured that feeling perfectly.

I'd also like to know what the Pool Connossieurs have to say about the other resort pools.

I don't know if it's because the resort is so new or just that Disney did such a great job in the design, but we really loved the luxurious furninshings in the rooms and the great looking landscaping. We also liked the small town feel of the resort.

I couldn't agree more. Just a side note...Marni who took us on a tour told us that many of those poor trees had been planted three times! The first time and twice after the hurricanes! It's a wonder they are still alive and so beautiful!

We always have a car. It doesn't matter where we stay. Yes, we use it more when we are at resorts like OKW and SSR then we do at BCV or VWL. However, we always have one. Many people do not recommend staying at OKW without a car and I think the same will be true for SSR as more people have experience staying there.

We generally don't use the theme pool because they are more crowded. There is always a quiet pool close by to swim in, and they are usually less crowded. When we do visit the theme pool, we do so for a few hours, not just a quick swim.

We purchased SSR because we wanted to buy direct from DVC, we didn't want to wait for something to come up at one of the other resorts, and we wanted the extra 12 years for our money. I was very hesitant because of all the negative things I read, but was more than pleased when I actually visited. It is a beautiful resort.

I was thrilled to see the picnic tables and grills near the quiet pool in Congress Park. I can't wait to cook dinner there while DS plays on the playground right nearby.

Disney does a fantastic job of creating a warm "home" like feeling in a commercial situation of great numbers, but my whole family (16 of us) honestly just did not get that feeling at SSR. We love our DVC memberships, we own at Wilderness lodge and we own at the Boardwalk. Our pool connoisseurs (13 year (son), 10 year old daughter, and my 21 year old sister) prefer the pools in the following order:
(We have swam at every resort on the Disney property)

1. Fastest slide - Polynesian, great atmosphere, great views, love the virgin daquiris (they all three claim that no other resort makes them as good as they are there)
2.Biggest slide - Storm a Long Bay Pirate Ship
3.Coronado Springs - Slide is good, music is great (top 40, rock), volley ball court next to pool. Adults also enjoy
4. Grand Floridian - Great atmosphere
5. Boardwalk Slide is okay, however, they are not wild about the clown (we explained the whole board walk theme). The pool water is the warmest. We laugh about this fact, considering the amount of children in the pool.



Resort of choice - Beach Club Villas. This way you can use Storm A Long Bay and all other resorts.

Adult choice for best pool - Coronado Springs has a more upbeat/adult atmosphere, great music, pool bar with T.V.'s adjacent to pool, volley ball court by pool, and is relaxing.

For those who've stayed, would you say the location was a slight drawback and that you spent more time shuttling than you would have liked? The more remote/quiet locale has some good points for sure, but from other threads it seems some folks think SSR is best for couples and not so much for families with kids in tow. What is your absolute fave thing about SSR when all is said and done?

I'd like to hear it from actual owners with lil ones...because after a week you'd really get a sense of how you feel about the location. We'd like to try SSR soon, but not quite sure! Thanks so much for your input into our decision-making!

We love the location and I don't find it any more "remote" than the other resorts. It is right next to DTD which makes nighttime more exciting. We could walk over at 11;30pm if we wanted something is always going on.

As far as for couples only I have to disagree. It has an awesome zero ebtry pool so everyone can play together in the pool no matter what age or ability. The Donalds playplace with the pop up fountain was a huge hit with our son and family.

One word of advice...don't believe all the critcs on the internet alot of negativity goes a long way while the positive posts are looked at less. People who have never stayed at SSR give their guesses on the future or opinions of it.

It is a Disney resort that is completely designed for families. I don't think Disney would ever plan a resort just for adults. Families are their prime demo and Walt wanted WDW to be for families.

My favorite thing about SSR (actually more than one) is the DTD view, the feeling of being in a small town, the peacefullness, the location and grounds. The leisure pool is equally as awesome as High rock springs pool.

For us there could not be a better home. When we saw SSR first being constructed a few years ago we longed to stay just because of it's location. We were excited to know we could own there!

Another good thing about SSR is that if you don't have a car, you can walk over to DTD and catch a bus to any other resort for dinner. It makes the whole inconveinent resort to resort transportation much easier. Been there three times and loved it!

SSR is no good
1. Place is TOO BIG!
2. Theme pool is TOO SMALL!
3. Restaurant selection STINKS!
4. Have to view construction!
5. Boat to DTD is TOO SLOW!
6. Scabs are using our bus system to park at DTD to avoid Parking fees at parks.
7. SSR owners are GREEDY and are going to take over DVC!
8. Walk is TOO LONG from parts of the resort to the CH area!

10a. I think they should construct 30' tall replicas of famous horses from the Disney films, and scatter them throughout the resort. I just don't understand how the Imagineers could have missed such an obvious opportunity for enhancing the theming when it worked so well at the Value resorts.

If only I could add a request for the "Pegasus Building" to my next reservation. Maybe someday...

hehe....I find it appauling that ALL of the cast members are not required to speak with an upstate NY accent. It truly ruins the theming of the place.

( but can you imagine those naughty NJ members staying there then? )
