If a person who is filling out an application puts '2 wks from date of hire' as their earliest possible start date, does that put mgrs off because the applicant cannot come to work right away?

I have been doing that with all the apps I've filled out recently because I do have a job currently and wouldn't like to get on my boss's bad side by just up and leaving if I get another job offer.

Unless they need someone to start right away, I would think they would definatley understand and appreciate your courtesy in wanting to give your former employer 2 weeks notice. Maybe somehow on the applications you could slip that in there that you would be available after giving proper notice to your former employer....

Hope things work out soon:D Good luck!

I agree. I would look at it in a good way, as it also shows your not in a rush to get out of the job because you hate the manager or were stealing or something. It just looks professional, I would stick with it.

Aren't you due next month? Let's be honest if an employer has to choose between you and someone who isn't pregnant but is just as qualified, who do you think he'll pick. They know that in less than 2 months you're going to be out for who knows how long and they'll have to find someone to cover for you.

Well yes..I am due soon. In April as a matter of fact. And yes, I'll be taking 3-4 wks off for maternity leave.

Let's be honest if an employer has to choose between you and someone who isn't pregnant but is just as qualified, who do you think he'll pick.

And tbh...I don't know if you meant it that way or not, grumpy, but that makes any potential employer I would go to sound discrimanatory in my book. But that's just me.

If you're both qualified they can pick whomever they choose. No one has to hire you. If you were fired because you were pregnant that's a different story. It may be discrimination, but we all know discrimination exists in all forms. I was just being realistic about why no one is jumping to hire you.

I just checked my email and I got a letter from the hiring mgr at Thousand Trails about a hiring fair on Thurs night. Problem is...I might not be able to attend because of work. My boss likes to write 'open ended' schedules meaning he posts the time you are supposed to show up but leaves the time you get off blank. It's extremely irritating and one of the many reasons I'm looking for a new job. I emailed the hiring mgr back and told him I'd love to attend, but explained why and asked if there was another hiring fair in the near future I could attend if I was unable to make it on Thurs night. Hopefully, I'll be able to make it though. Thousand Trails is about the same distance from home that my current job is and I'm assuming it pays better than my current job. Heck..even if it paid the SAME as my current job, I'd be willing to take the job if they offered it to me. The job I'm in now has absolutely NO potential for advancement for me and was only supposed to be a temporary thing. Temporary turned into a year (well it'll be a year in March) and I really don't like it, even though I like most of my coworkers.

Keep your fingers crossed and I'm gonna need lotsa pixie dust. :)

Congratulations to you and lots of luck and pixie dust coming your way!!!:wizard:

well actually no. It's discriminatory to fire a current employee who is still able to do their job duties simply because of a pregnancy. However there is nothing discriminatory in not hiring an employee who would depart on extended Maternity Leave within days of their start day.

I would suggest that you wait until after you have the baby and use those "Maternity Leave" days to actively search. Didn't you say your MIL would be available to provide daycare?

So...because I'm pregnant I should stop looking for a job? I have been actively searching for almost a year now and I never stopped to think I should QUIT searching as soon as I found out I was pregnant. And even after the baby comes, I'll continue to search.

And yes...MIL is willing to provide daycare and now possibly SIL as well. She's adopting in June or July (whenever the kidlet gets here) and has decided to be a SAHM after she adopts. :)

Hey! If you can find somebody willing to hire you right before you will want to take off 3 to 4 weeks for maternity leave -- go for it!
