as i live on long island, does anyone who lives in the area think it is crazy to fly down to Orlando for a weekend to go to Disney. we have the annual passes, and Song and Jetblue are pretty cheap. But i am trying to figure out if it is worth it to go from say, Tuesday afternoon to Thursday, if not Friday night (my weekend is wed-thurs)? has anyone done this? thanks.

Haven't done it but it sounds like a lot of fun. I say, "Why not?" :sunny:

I am also from Long Island, and an annual pass holder. Jet BLue has really great deals...especially when you leave during the week like you are planning.

We have never done a trip this short...but we have done a three nighter. We left early on a Thursday, and returned Saturday night. This gave us three full days in the park. :D

Would I do it again? Yes, if I could only manage to get away for a few days, I'd certainly want to spend them at Disney!

mich mouse...would you go for a disney resort or stay at something off site to save $$$?

I would think you might end up feeling like you spend more time in airports that relaxing - but go for it. Throw a few things in a carryon and go!! And hope it's 47 degrees here so you can really feel like you've been away!

I would join you only the DH & kids don't move as fast as I do!!

I just saw in your profile that you're an air traffic controller so I guess the airport issue isn't that big a deal for you - SO GO!!!!

(Can you tell that I'm jealous! cheap air prices x 4 isn't ever cheap and even though I love them, my family does weigh me down.... sigh..)

It's really up to you. I personally wouldn't want to do it because I don't think it's worth all the hassel for a few days. However, if you don't mind the time spent in the airport, then I say go for it. My rule of thumb is if I'm getting on a plane, I have to be going somewhere for a minimum of one week. But that's just me.

It really depends on if you think the Disney time outweighs the airport time.

If you decide to go HAVE FUN!!!!!

Steve from Staten Island.:sunny:

I woould definately go, why not?? Anytime you can get away and have some fun/enjoy yourself, I say it's absolutely worth it. Ask yourself this; do you work hard, do you have stress in your life?? If yes, then GO

Go for it!!!

I have left on a 7am flight, rented a car and been in the park for lunch. (carry on is key). Than left 2 days later on an 8pm flight. You'll have plenty of park time, Since you are a regular you won't feel "cheated" if you don't get to everything just your favorites and it will probably feel like a week away.

Enjoy

We always drive to Orlando but if I flew and it was cheap enough I would make a short trip. Florida beats this cold we are having for any amount of time!

Hi Steve Im from SI too!

reedycreek,
In 2001, I was going to fly down for one night to buy into DVC (it was not approved for sale in NY yet). The one night by myself, turned into 4 days with my family!

If you can do it, go for it. Last night I saw a commercial on TV for $55/night rates at WDW.

thanks all you fellow NY'ers for the advice. it seems crazy to me to go for 2-3 days, but i need to get my fix again! with airfares so low, its almost worth it. i'll have to think about it some more, prob wont go till after xmas anyway. thanks again!

My friend and I are going down this Friday and coming back on Monday. I'm in upstate NY and she's in CT.

My sister and her husband have done this a couple of times. In Sept they flew down on a Thursday night and came home on Sunday night.

I am also planning to do this next Oct. for my husband's 50th birthday. We will be there in AUg for a week with friends and then in late Oct we are goiong to celebrate his birthday and halloween(yes the same day). We will probably be gone for 3 or 4 days that time.

I live in Buffalo - and if we could get the JetBlue specials like you who fly out of JFK or LGA, I'd be down there LOTS more!

Go, enjoy, and have a fantastic time!!! :)

My DH and I just got back from DW we were there for four days this past weekend. We got cheap flights on Southwest out of McArthur. We stayed at the Pop Century for $49 a night. And the rental car was only abit more than car service. We also have annual passes. Was it worth it. YEP!!! We had a great time. The weather in FLA was beautiful.

Definately do it! We've done it before for a long weekend, 3-4 nights and we're planning on doing it in May/June if they have Star Wars weekends. DS really wants to go....major SW fan, as is Daddy and I don't want to take him out of school for it. We're already taking him out for few days in Dec and our district really frowns on it.

Have a great trip...long or short! :D

I suprised my wife with a quick trip from JFK to MCO for our anniversary. We left Friday am on first flite out, we were checked in and in the Magic Kindom by 12. Had Dinner in Epcot at Le Chefs De France, next day we hit MGM and Animal Kingdom and caught the last flight home. (8:45pm).

It was long, but fun, first time with no kids!

Strategies: Carry On Luggage Only, Rent a Car from National via Quick Rent Service, no waiting on line. It was well worth the trip.

wow looks like everyone thinks i should do a quick trip to Disney from NY, huh? i have to talk to the fiancee, although i doubt she will have any problem with it.

for those of you in NASSAU COUNTY LONG ISLAND, 98.3 is having a Magical Vacations contest for a trip for 8 to WDW! Thought I would pass the word...

Hi Reedy Creek,

Since you have AP's, why not check and see if you can get a great AP rate on-site? The convenience of staying onsite will make your short-stay magical, from beginning to end....When I went to Disney with my fiance' for a quick trip in 1999 (now husband) we decided to get married at WDW!

I work in Nassau County, so I'll be listening to 98.3...You never know!

Thanks for the information!:D

Post and let us know what you decide to do!
