If we were to bring our dog, what is the rule on leaving your dog in your pop-up trailer while doing the parks?

Is this allowable or do you need to kennel her?

If you need to kennel your pets, how easy is it to get them into the Disney kennels? Do they fill up fast so get them there early or can you take your time in the morning and relax before getting them there?

I know I have many questions, any help is welcome; if you can answer them all or just one.

Thank you:cool:

I have never been to FW but have been reading up on it quite a bit because we do have reservations for December. From what I read pets are not allowed to be unattended with tent camping or with pop-ups. FW does have it's own kennel, but also read it could be closing due to down sizing (could maybe be a rumor). Or if it closes who knows when. They want you to walk your dog twice a day and of course clean up after them. You have to have proof the dog has had all it's shots. The cost is $5.00 a day or $9.00 overnight. Hours are 7:30am-8:00 pm.

This information I read on the FW website. Hope it helps.

Lory is correct, pets are not to be left unattended in a tent or pop up.

Fort Wilderness has an on site kennel for your standard house pets. It will probably be best to leave your tiger at home. The kennel does NOT accept reservations at all, so don't bother trying. Current rates are $6 for a day stay and $9 for overnight. If you check in for the week you will pay the overnight rate for each and every day. Pets must be kept in the pet area 1600 - 1900, any preferred loop or on the canal pet walk. You must drive them to the kennel, you can NOT walk them to the kennel.

FW employees do NOT remove the pets from the cages for any reason. You must stop by to walk them yourself or pay $2.50 for each walk.

Most of the cases are stacking models, one over the other. Interior dividers can be removed to allow space for larger dogs. In addition to these cages which are indoors, they still have a number (I'd say 15 or 20) of outdoor cages/runs. While they have ceiling fans over them it does get quite warm during the summer. Natasha is about 80 pounds, and she will fit in a cage with the divider removed but I prefer the outside runs.

Unless it has changed recently, the FW kennel is open from 7:30AM to 10:00PM, but if you are out late the staff at the reception outpost can walk over to the kennel to get your dog to allow them to come to the site for the night.

Most pets at FW live in their owners motor homes, so I have never seen anyone turned away because the kennel was full.

Check out the link below to my FW site, it should help answer questions about pop upping at FW.

We have kenneled our dog at FW for the last 5 years or so and have nothing but positive things to say about it. Clean, nice staff, great facility. When we had a pop up, we were allowed to keep our dog in the trailer overnight as long as he wasn't left unattended and didn't disturb anyone, but you should check with FW regarding current rules. I have heard nothing about the kennel at FW closing and would chalk that up to rumor unless I see something official from FW. They are generally pretty well utilized, and I would think probably more utilized than the kennels at the parks. As I recall, the rates are higher than quoted by Lory. There is a 5 dollar per day charge for your campsite in the pet loops, in addition to the daily fee at the kennel. Since we did not bring our dog last November, I am not sure what the current kennel fees are. Again, check with FW kennels for that information. We were allowed to check in our dog the night before, which would allow you to take it easy the first morning. Once checked in, the cage is yours for as long as you rented it for. They do keep track of who walks their pets and who doesn't, and have asked some guests to remove their animals when they were consistantly noncompliant, but they are pretty flexible and will work with you if you are staying late at a park, say for fantasmic.::MickeyMo
