Question for people who are more computer literate then me

I have a question , and I'm about to chuck my laptop out the window. lol

I have been trying to download the trial version of Office 10 (I have an expired version of 07') . It gets RIGHT to the very end of instillation , and it comes up with an error message that says "There was a problem setting up blah blah blah, try running setup again or contact microsoft product support"

I have tried to contact Microsoft tech , but the Indian ladies response was basically tough poop and that all I can do is look at the FAQ about Office .

Why is it not wanting to install, and is there anything I can do to fix it?

Did you uninstall Microsoft Office 2007 first? That's important.

I'm confused by both of your posts. Of course, I have the Mac versions of Office, but (1) they never expire and (2) I have both Office 2004 and Office 2008 on my computer and did not have to uninstall one to install a newer version. In fact I keep getting asked if I want to update my 2004 version, and since I only use 2008 now, I don't bother doing the updates for 2004 - just the ones for 2008.

(2) Trial versions may not install over other versions.

You are correct that commercial versions won't have these problems.

I had the beta version of Office 2010 on my computer until the retail version of the software was released. I had to uninstall all previous Office programs to get the beta version to install all the way. Same error as you are getting.

I used a free program from Download.com called Revo UnInstaller to completely uninstall the programs.
