Question for parents, would this offend you?

I am planning a cooking theme next week for my students. I plan to send home a list of what we will be making and the ingredients. I have an allergy list but often the kids are allergic to things and I don't find out till after the fact. I just want to make sure that all the parents are aware. On this memo home I was planning say something along the lines of:

"Please find a list of ingredients that the children will be using and eating next week. If your child is allergic to any of these items please let me know and I will change the plan. Also, if anyone would like to send in donations of the items below please feel free to do so."

I fully intend to pay for all the ingredients myself but would like to let the parents know that it would be fine with me if they wanted to send in things. I know I wouldn't mind getting that kind of note from my dd's teacher but I wasn't sure what other parents might think.

It would not offend me either. I wouldn't think twice about it!

As a parent of a child who has a life-threatening nut allergy I would be quite pleased with your letter. Our school asks for donations like that, so I wouldn't be offended in the least. Thanks for caring! :sunny:

I would think that you are a very creative and thoughtful teacher and that I was glad my child was in your class! :goodvibes

I would be more likely to send in some of the ingredients if I got a nice note like that.

I think it sounds great. I'm a parent of a child with food allergies as well as a teacher. When my kids come home talking about a cooking project, etc. I always feel bad knowing the teacher paid for that out of her own pocket when I would have been glad to send something in.

Sounds real good to me. As a matter of fact DDs teacher last year asked all the parents to send ingredients to bake several types of cookies around Christmas time. Even asked for volunteers to help bake the cookies.

I had fun with DD and her class cause I took some time off from work and helped.

I would be thrilled to get that note. My son has food allergies, and it comes up a lot.

My kids love to bring things in for their classrooms, so I welcome every chance we get.

Sounds good.

My only thought is that you might want to say when you'd need the ingredients. I'd be tempted to say by Friday so you can go shopping over the weekend. Or you could ask them to circle the ingredients if they'd like to send any and return the note. That way you'll know what you still need to buy. Just a thought to help you out. ;)

Sounds fine to me - the parent of two boys with life threatening food allergies. Just had to add that some items that you won't think contain allergins, do. You really have to read every label. For example toll house milk choc chips may contain nut traces but semi sweet are okay. Hostess treats are almost always safe. Little Debbies never!
Have fun! Sounds like a great project.

You sound like a great teacher. I would love to have a note send home like that. My child has life-threatening allergies. I would insist, however, that no plan be changed just because my child could not eat it. I would just quietly send in a substitute so as not to disrupt the class or the teacher's plans.

I would not be offended at all and I would most definitely send something to school to help out with the project!

Good note. I would send it. As a parent with a child (adult now) I would have appreciated it if teachers had done this with my daughter. UNfortunately they didn't and we had a few scares.
