Born and raised in North Jersey (Bergen County), Taylor Ham, cheese and egg ...baby. Moved to South Jersey, right outside Philly and ordered Taylor Ham, egg and cheese and received regular ham on the sandwich. Blech. The waitress never heard of Taylor Ham and heard ham. I learned that it is pork roll down here.
Is that a northern or central thing? I lived in the south all my life never had a pork roll. Well 42 out of my 46 years i lived in south jersey.
Yeah, I know. It's basically scraps mushed together. It skeeves me out.
.
Scrapple?
Here is a menu from a well known diner in NJ - lots of Taylor ham (and now I'm hungry!)

She never heard of it because it doesn't exist. It's Taylor pork roll everywhere including the Taylor factory. People can call it what they want but that doesn't make it change what it is - pork roll.
lol, that was quite an informative response, Haircut![]()
It's not just a Jersey thing. I knew what pork roll was when I was a wee tot in Philly. It's common in eastern Pennsylvania and northern Delaware too. Not sure about the parts of New York which border NJ.
Now something that is REALLY a localized thing in Jersey: Drink-a-boost
