DH & I are both USPS clerks in Michigan--well, our state is in such bad shape that there's a good chance that we may be forced to relocate since they may be shutting down our Plant. We would like to choose our own destiny & have always loved the Carolina's so we are now looking into moving. We are thinking of taking a drive to the Carolina's in the next couple of months & would like to try and focus in on a specific area. We do have young kids so we definitely need to find a great school distict as well.

So, for those of you who are USPS employees in that area, is your District in any better shape than ours? Do you have any recommendations as far as a good area to try to reassign to? I know that we are all facing cutbacks right now but there has got to be some areas that are in better shape than others!

We have always wanted to make the move & figure this is the extra push that we need. Thanks so much for any advice that you can give--we really appreciate it! :flower3:

NC unemployment rate was 11.8% in Jan. Not a great time to move here without a job in place. I don't know about the USPS.

my friends DH is a postal employee in NC and he was told that they will be closing many smaller branch offices......

I'm in Asheville, NC (not a USPS employee) and about 2 months ago there was a story on the news about some of our smaller post offices closing. Apparently it is happening all over the southeast as well as other parts of the country.
Good luck!

Yes, they are doing a lot of consolidating at the USPS right now--a lot of the smaller towns will be losing their offices & it will hurt the customer's who aren't as mobile. Michigan is in very bad shape right now & we just want to move out of here--they are predicting that it will be around 2024 before our state can recover.

I know that every state is facing problems right now but we figure that now is OUR time to make the move! My parents always regretted not moving us to another state when we were younger & now I keep thinking of that as I am raising my boys. I don't want to have regrets!

We are ready to start our lives over & want what is best for our family at this point. We want to find an area that would be great to raise a family & are hoping that the Carolina's will be our new home. We won't move until at least one of us can transfer to another Post Office but we need to know which area to focus on. It sounds like the area south of Charlotte may be promising--any input on that?

Thanks for everyone's responses--every little bit helps!
