Question for Meat and Potato Family

Hope everyone knows that we dont all like the same things..

My husband is a meat and potato person too...heck so am I....we love Le Cellier, Biergarten, Crystal Palace, Hollywood and vine even wasnt bad, OH House of Blues in Down town Disney, they have some good options at Cosmic rays too. We have gone to Chef Mickeys Tutto Italia had a great steak meal...it melted in our mouths it was so tender...
GO to our Dining area and see the restaurants and what they have to offer for all of your party that is going...

I would suggest Tusker House for breakfast. It has the standard options (mickey waffles, eggs) and some different options as well. Our favorite breakfast when we're down there. For dinner I would suggest The Wave. They have a nice variety while still offering your meat and potatoes :)

the answer to your question is 'walt disney world'. all of it! they cater to kids, who are typically less than adventurous.

it sounds like you're looking for somewhere that will please the gourmets in your group, but still offer options for the less adventurous. what that family dynamic actually gives you is a great opportunity to try new things. even if you don't THINK you like something, if someone else at your table orders something more exotic, ask for a bite. my extended (italian) family does this all the time (there's a lot of family love and sharing at family meals!) and it is how my husband learned to eat brussels sprouts and raw tuna...two of his now favorite things! (though not together--eeew! :rotfl:)

to echo what i think a few people have already said, yachtsman at the yacht club is a great choice for a compromise. my husband and i ate there in november--he had a strip steak and potato gratin (normal--to me, boring!) and i had the rack of lamb with jicima slaw and blackberry sauce (fancy--to me, heaven!)

I have eaten at many restaurants in WDW and I honestly cannot think of a single one that didn't have what I would consider 'plain food'. Maybe Teppan Edo or San Angel Inn, but other than that I think you can get steak and potatoes anywhere, as well as fish and chicken. My sister is similar to you in that doesn't like what she calls 'frou frou' food ;) and she's always been able to find something she likes.

Jiko at the AKL has short ribs over mashed potatoes, it's really great. The portion is a little on the small side, it may seem that way to me because its so good I could eat more.

Kona Cafe at the Polynesian would be good for you. I'm one of those "weird" eaters who likes things like pasta with veggies and sushi (but love a good steak, too!).

And 50's Prime Time would be perfect for the meat and potatoes eaters. It's all comfort food.

You need the kind of places my parents would eat, I would guess. Although they would swear that they are not picky, many of the places on this thread would not suit them at all. They would not like Biergarten and would be scared to death at Jiko, Artist Point or Teppan Edo. I recently thought we were going to have to leave Applebee's b/c my dad couldn't find anything he liked (he doesn't like "big" hamburgers), but I saved the day when I saw "sliders" on the appetizer menu.

The two sit-down places we like that they would also like are Whispering Canyon and '50s Prime Time.

I am married to MR. MEAT AND POTATOES. Here are his favorites: Biergarten, Kona, O'Hana, Garden Grill. He also LOVED Hoop de Doo Review.

Most of the buffets will have everything you want. Remember that buffets always have an area with plain mac-n-cheese, and plain chicken nuggets, and the like. I think the Biergarten in Epcot is a particularly good choice.

You might also like the Trails End buffet at Fort Wilderness Campground or, if you want to spend the $$$ for the dinner show, the HDDR. Both stress fried chicken & BBQ.

My places that sprang to mind have all been mentioned.

Le Cellier is fine - similar to a Longhorn or Outback, but waaay overpriced. IMO, it is not all it is hyped up to be on the DIS.

For a meat and potatos kind of family, I'd avoid Boma like the plague. Almost nothing I'd eat. I had the potato wedges, but they had weird, hairy, green things all over them and I didn't care for that flavor. I had trouble even with the breakfast, which you'd think would be easy-peasy.

Biergarten is okay. Restaurant Marrakesh has a lemon chicken meal that I like. So those are places I thought I'd hate and ended up liking. I don't know about France, Japan, China or Norway as I'm not that adventurous.

I didn't care for anything at the Brown Derby and ordered off of the children's menu. Sci-Fi sucked. 50s Prime Time isn't great, but it isn't horrid and it is a lot of fun.

well i think so far i like the ragland road, liberty tree, rainforest cafe, found a place at boardwalk... big river grille and brewing works that looked pretty good. so i think maybe between the new ideads, and the places we have been to i might be good!!! once again thanks sooo much for all the ideas and if you have anymore please send them!
